Did CheyTac ammo almost blow up me and my DTA HTI today?

Call me dumb, but I figured "It's factory ammo". When I felt a 'hot" one, i would inspect the primer and the base of the case. These ruptures went unnoticed until the last one blew out the ejector. it was only after talking to cheytac and sorting through all the brass for all the ammo I have...

Please explain how a bullet can "go to sleep" and get more accurate at longer ranges?

Well, I ignored the possibility of this phenomenon and just developed my load at 100 yards with the 350 SMK. Finally under 1/2 MOA. If this phenomenon DOES happen, I might have a 1/4 MOA gun out at 500!

    300 rum reloading

If you do your job, you can expect this. 91 grains loaded to the lands in a match chamber is my max, and where it shoots best. <a href="http://s277.photobucket.com/user/secondofangle/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-02/500688c0-4344-4833-93ce-0bba556b3a59_zpsaba73b85.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img...

Did CheyTac ammo almost blow up me and my DTA HTI today?

So, the balanced flight projectiles loaded ammo (that I paid $7 a round for) shoot so bad that last night I pulled the bullets to use the brass for my own loads. The top 10 grains or so of powder was loose, but the remainder of the powder below that was packed adn caked together so tight that I...

Initial Reloading Notes for .375 Cheytac for DTA HTI

Chrono'd the rounds today. the 132 grain Retumbo loaded to the lands (base to ogive 3.391) Fed 215M primer, new Jamison brass, have a muzzle velocity (red Chrony about 5 feet from muzzle) of 3045-3055. At barometric pressure of 24.23 mmHg and about 40 degrees and 85% humidity, with all the...

    300 rum reloading

Yeah I would be hesitant to start reloading with this cartridge. 92 grains is a lot of pow pow . I've been reloading 20 years and was pretty nervous when I recently started reloading 375CT. BEFORE THAT 300 RUM was my biggest cartridge

Hornady modified case in .260- like trying to find a hen's tooth!

I just bought 3 taps from victor machine because of the minimum order. I promised one to a friend. I'll ship the extra one for $13 if anybody wants it. My total for 3 was $37

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Does anybody wish that the rear monopod had a rubber "boot" on it, so that it did not slide on concrete and other hard surfaces? I put Duct Tape on the bottom of mine, but I've been considering finding some kind of chair leg slider or boot for it - I haven't looked yet, I was gonna try Lowes...

Initial Reloading Notes for .375 Cheytac for DTA HTI

For those who don't want to read the whole thread, I will summarize some things that I have learnt that go beyond the usual "what stuff do I use to reload this cartridge in this gun": 1.) Shoot from the prone on a solid foundation with a good bipod and a good rear rest, whatever that means to...

I finally got my reloads worked up to the point that I'm not ashamed of posting the results on this thread. <a href="http://s277.photobucket.com/user/secondofangle/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-02/IMG_20140207_173708606_zpsixhbv4ob.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img...

Initial Reloading Notes for .375 Cheytac for DTA HTI

Now we're making some progress. I got my 375 insert for my Hornady OAL gauge kit which measures base to ogive. Previously I was using calipers to measure COAL. I also got a tap (5/16-36 IIRC) to tap the base of a case and use the hornady OAL to measure the distance to lands. Turns out that...

    Labradar doppler chronograph

I'm thinking this is something I could take to the field to confirm actual velocities during shooting sessions (I'm thinking varmints) if you just have it beside you while you're shooting - suddenly a chrono is as convenient as a laser rangefinder.....

    Bipod for Cheytac question

Agree with limited cant and too wide for a case comments of the LRA, and also that it's built very well. BUT it also doesn't have enough height for a DTA to shoot up any significant incline. If you buy the leg extensions and the quick release (so you can transport in a case and not carry...

Did CheyTac ammo almost blow up me and my DTA HTI today?

I don't know, but I HOPE not....I've been considering a bore scope for some time, perhaps now is the time.... Brass shot after these shows no indication that it is impacted by a chamber imperfection

Did CheyTac ammo almost blow up me and my DTA HTI today?

Here are the other blown cases. They weigh 135-137 grains of a powder when you tear them apart and measure. Cheytac will be investigating, as soon as I send them the rest of the lot of cartridges. <a...

Initial Reloading Notes for .375 Cheytac for DTA HTI

OK. I will say that I am not yet satisfied. I want this to be a consistent 0.5 MOA gun and load....but I think I may be on the right track. This week, I loaded some loads that are about 10 thousandths from the lands (OAL about 4.210 in my gun, but with +/- .020 variability because of teh SMK...

New BIG BOY Atlas Bipod at shot show 50BMG 375CT 408CT

I saw it and played with it today. Still a prototype. They say 3rd quarter for delivery. I'd say it's the Atlas version of an LRA…. Not bad, but not any better than the LRA except it pans. No price yet. 10.5" height, just under LRA IIRC. Then I went and played with the Elite Iron...
