Open-source 3D model for rifle chassis

The 3D printing makes it easy to get something in your hands and see if it's going to do what you expect it to when you're drawing it. I've been playing around with the stock below and have printed most of it at least once and come up with a pile of revisions I am going to make before I start...

Open-source 3D model for rifle chassis

Point 5 is very valid for the F-class stock I posted the photo of above. I was given the maximum weight so weighed all the parts up and modelled the stock and the software had it come in about 100 grams underweight. When it was 90% machined I checked the rules and the weight had to include the...

Open-source 3D model for rifle chassis

Pretty much any model you will find to download will be an STL made by someone who never had to machine what they modelled. Most models on Grabcad and Thingiverse are STL's more suited to 3D printing. Get some calipers and take some dimensions and then do some fusion 360 tutorials, it's actually...

    Tikka T3 Thread

I'm in Australia so probably not worth the postage for you. I have uploaded it to thingiverse so you can download the file and have someone local 3d print it for you: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4739508

    Tikka T3 Thread

I converted mine. The cheek riser knob didn't get in the way but I modified it to fit from the opposite side so it looked right. It wasn't a big job but it was over a year ago so I don't recall the exact method. I can snap some photos if you like. I also made a filler block for the original RH...

    Homemade Induction Annealer

Nice job! have you had any issues with the shaft on the dropper servo getting hot from being close to the induction field? I had a pivot pin on the trapdoor setup on mine in a similar location and it eventually heated up enough after a few hundred cases to bind up on the plastic. I changed it...

    Precision Rifles.....show em!!

New 6BRX. Stiller Tac 30 AW, IBI 1:8" barrel, KRG X-Ray, Timney trigger, Nightforce rings, Bushnell 3.5-21 DMR. Cheap brake and I made the tuner so it'll be interesting to see what difference it makes. I've only put 20 or so shots through it so far but seems to be working pretty well. Time now...

    Homemade Induction Annealer

Grab some 1/8" or 3mm tube, wrap it 7 1/2 turns around something 1 1/8" diameter and see what that does. It seems to be the standard for these ZVF annealer boards. Any reason you went with a 36 rather than 48V power supply? I'm just relying on the "wisdom of the crowd" but that would be my first...

    Homemade Induction Annealer

I had a few different feeder wheels for different sized cases, I saw a brilliant idea on youtube using magnets to locate a rotating feeder drum. I made one up with 223, 308 and magnum feed slots, it can switch between the 3 without any tools which makes it pretty quick to swap from one size to...

    Tikka T3 Thread

I'd say you'd find that the stock is made with the same distance from the rear action screw to the rear of the magwell as a Remington 700. I made a bunch of stocks for Tikkas the same way (obviously with a different trigger/bolt handle inlet and recoil lug/front action screw location) and it...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

I got the case feeder up and running on my annealer.

    Homemade Induction Annealer

I got the new RevC induction board from Mark at MGNZ last week and got it up and running today using a Makerbase closed loop stepper to run the case feeder. All automatic now, I reckon it's pretty posh!

    223 Ackley Improved

My favourite load now is ADI cases, 80gr Nosler Custom Comp, 25.2gr 2206H (H4895), BR4 primer. 25" 7 twist barrel- 2940FPS, SD of 2-3.

    Precision Rifles.....show em!!

This would have to be the most simple but accurate rifle I have. It's chambered in 223 Ackley. LH Rem 700 squared up with a Sako extractor, bushed firing pin hole and threaded for a knob. Rifle Basix trigger, 25" IBI 7 twist barrel, little brake I made, KRG Bravo converted to LH, Sightron 5-20...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

Not today but the last few days. I got some 6BRX fireformed. I set up the cases with a false shoulder and jammed the bullets a little, they came out great using up all of the orphaned bullets lying around. I have a total of 300 cases now right to go. It actually shot pretty well given there were...

    Homemade Induction Annealer

Don't ground the DC- to the case. I have the earth for the AC power going to the case as well as the PS. Have a good look at your coil and make sure the coils are not touching each other as well, that'll cause all sorts of issues and mess up the relay.

    Homemade Induction Annealer

I'm not sure, I've never checked. I ordered the heatsink because I thought there must be a reason they make them for the relay but it's worked fine since I put it in there. It even copped being wired backward at first and just stayed open from memory. I bought the relay locally because the one I...

    Homemade Induction Annealer

In mine I have the Arduino mounted directly below the ZVS board and it hasn't been an issue. There is a 3mm aluminium shelf between the two though which might have made a difference. Are you sure you don't have a fault on the board? A short might be what killed your relay?

    Bushing Dies or Standard Dies

I use Redding body dies and Lee Collet neck dies and have found this produces better concentricity than full length or bushing dies on cases that are not neck turned. See the video below, the gauge is metric, each graduation is just under .0004" (4/10ths of a thou). You can polish the mandrel on...

    Homemade Induction Annealer

The plan is to run it from the same board but with a separate power supply. Happy to share the files for the feeder once I have it up and running properly.
