Rifle Scopes 2014's Best Scope ShootOut

You have been arguing aggressively with someone imaginary. +1000 for Zielmeister.

Integral mount (which does not have this problem) or separate rings (which I am talking about)?

They (webshop) ship international allright. Got mine sent to Switzerland.

Rifle Scopes Advise on a High end Glass upgrade.

A friend of mine shoots IPSC rifle with a Swaro z6i 1-6x. He can choose his scopes, and I have all reasons to trust his opinion; the z6i is fantastic. I did not have the opportunity to shoot with it, but the image quality and eyebox comfort are exceptional, 1x really is a true 1x (zero...

Rifle Scopes Advise on a High end Glass upgrade.

Kahles and S&B are excellent (don't know about #2, never had a chance to play with). Another possibility in the same genre is Hensoldt 3-12x. The glass is at least as good as S&B, that is -- as good as it gets, and the 56mm ocular gets some extra light at dusk or dawn. Absolutely terrific...

Rifle Scopes 2014's Best Scope ShootOut

+1 I am hesitating to make a similar test with scopes at hand, just to see how a SB 3-20x compares to others. (And I also wish I had the the test's definition of appropriate eye relief.)

Indeed, on a one-piece mount that is not an issue at all; I was talking about separate rings, which are a great deal lower.

Aha! The author of the study! First of all -- 1000 x thanks for the great work that you have done! As with your excellent tests of laser rangefinders, the approach is thorough and objective, and very informative; a really unique and delightful approach (especially refreshing in the ocean of...

Rifle Scopes 2014's Best Scope ShootOut

On top of me being naturally a maniacal paranoid nitpick, my job description basically says "maniacal paranoid nitpick" (which does not facilitate remission). I would guess it sort of rubs off to anything I do.

Rifle Scopes 2014's Best Scope ShootOut

As mentioned here, I would bet on a too-short eye relief distance. S&B just doesn't seem to respect the advertised 90 mm.

Am I? Schmidt & Bender, do you read that? Just in case, if you ever wonder, a short 3-20x as a sign of gratitude for volunteer moleness would be just fine.

Rifle Scopes 2014's Best Scope ShootOut

I guess you are right, point granted, thanks, my brain was short-circuiting. (I just remembered taking photos through scopes, and getting full eyepiece image at distances which would not work if the relief was calculated to the camera's focal plane.) Now, what I would guess has happened, the...

Rifle Scopes high magnification 34mm tube body on AR15

In theory, that should not be a problem. If I am not mistaken, the standard iron sight height above an M4 rail is 1.5", that is 38.1 mm (to be double-checked, this is out of memory, and I don't own no AR15oids to measure). The sight height (scope axis) of a 56 mm objective, if you count the...

Don't know if this has been pointed out already. A S&B PMII 3-20x50 (and, I would guess, any S&B PMII) mounted on separate (34 mm) rings does not leave enough space to use the scope levelling tool. While the tool itself is great -- very ingenious and simple to use -- there is simply not enough...

Rifle Scopes Is Schmidt & Bender PM II 5-25x true 5-25X?

The method to measure magnification in PrecisionRifleBlog.com tests is completely messed up. see http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/snipers-hide-rifle-scopes/255991-2014s-best-scope-shootout-5.html#post3199113 The magnification and zoom range figures (and, by extension -- optical quality...

Rifle Scopes 2014's Best Scope ShootOut

Very, very interesting study indeed. However, I can see a bit of a fundamental problem with the methodology of measuring scopes magnification (which leads to probably incorrect 18x point, which invalidates a number of the study results). Disclaimer: criticism to follow. Maybe I am wrong all...

Range Report Collecting DOPE to True Ballistic Calculators w/ Angled Shots? Will data be flawed?

I'd love to know how to do that -- that is, how to build a custom drag model for a bullet out of measured slope dope with significant angles of inclination. Any links to documentation, guides, resources, even hard copy books? Because, short of writing a custom ballistic solver software, I see no...

Range Report Collecting DOPE to True Ballistic Calculators w/ Angled Shots? Will data be flawed?

Yes and no. You cannot really use it to create a custom drag curve for a bullet, at least not directly. But you can see if the model that you are using is correct or not.

Range Report Collecting DOPE to True Ballistic Calculators w/ Angled Shots? Will data be flawed?

AB solver actually does the 3-DOF model calculations of the "true" trajectory, which is very, very close to reality (provided that actual input data, incl. the bullet drag model, is correct). The "Rifleman's Rule" is total crap beyond 400 m.
