Gunsmithing Chamber Reamer Not Clearing Chips

The hardware for this was less than $250. The pump is ~$120 on eBay. It took less time to set up than I saved the first time I used it. There are 3 gallons of water based coolant in the green 5 gallon pail. The pump is a Shurflo 8000-812-288, knowing what I know now, I'd buy the...

The new 33XC & 37XC cartridges designed by David Tubb

Measuring to the top of the case so QL can use it: An unfired and sized piece of 33XC brass was 138.0 grains of water The fired and unsized piece of 375xc brass shipped with the dies was 143.0 grains of water. Sizing that piece of 375 brass brought it down to 140.7 grains of water. I'm not...

The new 33XC & 37XC cartridges designed by David Tubb

The overbore ratio would be between the 30/378 Weatherby and the 338 Snipetac, so similar barrel life, tolerance to shooting strings, etc.. QL suggests you'd be able to fill the case with H50bmg and just max out pressure, so it's still not so big you couldn't find slow enough powders. I built...

    RPR 556 Alternative?

I bought one a year ago for $800 as a donor rifle. I think what slowed down the sales was the factory barrel length. The action, twist, and magazine allow for nearly 2.6" 223 and they put a 20" barrel on it? I chambered a 26" 1:7 Bartein for it and absolutely love the gun. Slickest feeding...

Gunsmithing 300 WM to 6.5 OR 6mm...is it possible?

If you went with WSM or RSAUM cases, you could use the bolt you have. 6.5 PRC or 6.5 GAP would be the canned solutions.

    Shooter App question

When you switch to the G7, you have to enter an actual G7 value for the BC. Shooter doesn't automatically adjust the number for you. G7s are about half the G1s, so your BC will be hopelessly high if you enter a G1 value and tell Shooter it's a G7.

New Ruger RPR's - Magnum options

No doubt those barrels and wrenches are on the way. The regular Proof website doesn't show them yet. Do they give a weight on the Expertvoice link? Stocky's didn't. Stocky's also shows the long action calibers as back ordered. I went the other way with a longer heavier 300 Norma barrel made...

New Ruger RPR's - Magnum options

That option doesn't exist yet as near as I can tell. The stripped 338 barrel weighs 4# 13 oz. A 24" 6.5cm Proof RPR barrel weighs 2# 11 oz. The 338 barrel is longer and has a larger shank, so it'll be heavier than the 6.5 barrel. Best guess? 1.5-2# Many of the barrel nut wrenches for the...

New Ruger RPR's - Magnum options

I thought about taking pictures at the time, but I was really fired up about the gun and just wanted to get my new toy running. IIRC, the trigger slot in the action is shorter with the big guns. The short action Timney catches on the back corner and won't drop down into the slot into the action.

New Ruger RPR's - Magnum options

I modified a short action Timney to fit in my 338. The upper rear corner needed about 1/4" x 1/4" removed from the housing.

    Gunsmithing Boring bar question

I prebore to 20 thou under the shoulder diameter far enough that about half the pilot will still engage the bore. Then I prebore about 1/8" to a diameter where the reamer will just start. This gives 2 spots spaced reasonable far apart where the reamer starts concentric with the bore. The...

    ELR on FB

I'm going to have to call bullshit on this one. Your comments are rude and come off as an ignorant asshole promoting a vision of ELR that only supports what you're trying to sell. I am curious to see how many people are willing to buy your setup though. I think you got the 12 dumbest on the...

300 Win Mag out to 1 mile

This is pretty old and written for the 230 hybrid. There are more bullets out these days that give similar results. It used 24" barrels and 1300 yards for the comparison, but it makes the point that the 300wm loaded long with 230 Hybrids has similar hit percentages to the 338 Lapua. I won the...

    Making a Mile Long Shot

Not so much.... Either of the reticles for that scope have 20 moa marked above the center, and the Burris rings are configurable in 5 moa increments. The SFP scope has 70 moa of travel, 20 above and below is 40, giving 110 and he needs less than 95. He has 20 in the existing base, 48 in...

    Making a Mile Long Shot

When I started ELR, I stacked a 20 moa AR15 riser between the rings and existing rail to get more travel out of the scope. It's a cheap and reversible way to get started. There are 30 moa AR10 risers out there as well. Whatever is under your zero stop is available to put into the base. EGW...

.338 Lapua vs .338 Norma for AXMC

It'll depend on how long the throat is in the chamber. The CIP AI mags will take loaded rounds up to a little over 3.75". A 300 Sierra loaded to the base of the boat tail at the case neck junction is ~3.85". 3.95" for the 300 Berger. Not all chambers are set up for that though. You can buy...

    Ruger precession

I added a 32" 300 Norma barrel to my 338 Lapua RPR. There is a picture in the 338 RPR thread in the ELR section. https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/ruger-rpr-338lm.6906310/ Post #42 The standard RPR barrel nut wrenches won't work because the threaded portion of the nut ahead of...

.338 Lapua vs .338 Norma for AXMC

I came at ELR from the same direction, action pistol, and about the same annual round count. Probably in front of a very similar Dillon. I started ELR a few years ago with a 300wm. With a longer than SAAMI throat, it can be loaded to give performance similar to the 338 Lapua. Barrel life for...

.338 Lapua vs .338 Norma for AXMC

300 Norma would work with your bolt face and magazines, solve the magazine length problem, and out perform the 338 Lapua. That would be at the expense of about 1/3 less barrel life than the 338 Lapua. As a practical matter, the 338 Lapua is the hardest to fuck up as an ELR cartridge and makes...
