    Honest Gun Reviews

I thought I'd try my hand writing for big gun magazines. Savage sent me a 338 Lapua Magnum, Hornady sent me a few boxes of ammunition. The combination was awful. The rifle wouldn't shoot my handloads proven in a number of name-brand rifles. Sent them back. The soft brass was trash and I...

Idea for presentos on a limited budget

Once you've shot out a barrel there really isn't much use for it. Here's an idea from the USAMU Custom Firearms Shop. These make nice handouts - gifts - keepsakes for the cost of your gunsmith - machinists' time. The machinist cuts the barrel into coin-thick pieces, polishes them, then laser...

Robert Heinlein on what a person should be able to do: “A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act...

    ELR

I agree with everything written above. I've taught good, reasonably intelligent shooters who have never shot past 600 yards to hit a steel E-type silhouette at a mile in less than a dozen rounds -- with guns they already own and one with a borrowed scope. The magic is in having software and...

    XM7 worries from the field.

There is no perfect process. Even within USSOCOM there are different equities, preferences, prejudices, wants, and demands. What works for frogmen doesn't necessarily work in the Hindu Kush. For Big Leg Army the requirements writers and developers are nowhere near the shooters nor the intel...

    Rem700 Bolt Handle angle change

The 700 bolt handle is swept back slightly. The older 721's handle is perpendicular to the bolt body axis straight out to the right. I agree knuckle bump is annoying. 721 bolt handle angle: https://adarmscustomrifles.com/products/low-profile-cocking-piece I sent my 700 bolt to Dan...

    XM7 worries from the field.

The Chinese spent $1.85 billion for 1.4 million SAPI-equivalent hard plate sets to outfit the People's Liberation Army and People's Armed Police with fielding starting in 2025. Joe Biden has already equipped the Taliban.

    XM7 worries from the field.

Chinese SAPI-equivalent hard plate body armor. There are a number of avenues that were never considered. How about boxed (for carbines) and belted (for M27s and SAWs) 77-grain 5.56mm? Belted 185-grain Berger Juggernauts in 7.62. Actual trigger time with WHATEVER gets adopted. The new SIG...

    Reticle Design and our Disagreements

The MIL-R is actually one of my favorites (as are the MSR and MSR2). You don't have to have a laser. It's got mil ranging down to tenths. You can hold five to ten mils over your zero and spot your own splash (with a clip-on at night as well). You have a crosshair for shades and favors.

    Reticle Design and our Disagreements

A problem with cluttered Christmas tree or grid reticles comes when you're trying to follow your own trace and impact splashes, especially at night with clip-on starlight image intensification. Too much "help" can get in the way of impact confirmation and efficient transition to new targets.

    Remington Sendero Opinions

Shoot it. If it doesn't group well you can have a gunsmith cut a half-inch off the rear end and re-chamber with a new neck and throat. If it's too heavy for you he can chop a few inches off the front end, re-crown, and thread for a muzzle brake. My brother has a Winchester 7mm Magnum Laredo...

It is part of the entire acknowledged defense acquisition process. If the government has a requirement and an idea of what it wants (but doesn't know for sure if it's even possible) they put out a request for information. The entire world can submit answers and dialog with the buyer. The...

.308 win - reloading same brass for bolt action and an AR-10

Good advice about segregating brass (like commercial for the bolt gun and GI Lake City for the autoloader). You'll get consistent precision for the bolt gun with cases fire-formed for that chamber. Self-loaders are harder on brass as some cases are getting primary extraction while the brass is...

If the rumors are true, hookers are rejoicing in Olongapo!!

It's more important to us than the Philippine Navy. They let Clark go into the toilet. The mayor of Olongapo and the Subic Bay caretakers didn't want it looted and stripped like Clark had been. Funny how once the Chinese started dicking the Philippines Uncle Sam didn't look so bad.

    Plate Carrier for Rucking

Please don't ruck while wearing armor and/or a plate carrier. SVD rifle

Ridiculous -- especially for a public range. I've fired the SVD and FPK and find them both capable rifles to at least 500 Meters. They balance and carry nicely for real-world military field application. One of my Special Forces ODAs did a precision shooting training trip to India. At the...
