Want to have some fun? Shoot offhand at a nra long range target @ 1000yds. Only have done it twice so far, 181 4x is my best. Iron sights, of course

    The Brown Liquor Thread

Tried the Slane and liked the smooth clear taste. Tend to like single malts, Balvenie varieties best. Besides the browns, if you like gin give Bootles a try. Best gin I've ever had.

Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

Good . Your just a little rusty. Use it a few times and it becomes second nature. I use it every day, so it's a piece of cake.

Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

That because most don't understand how to do the math, Dave Kiff included. I refuse to use any of his prints. Over the years, iv,e found about a dozen math errors on his reamer drawings. Head space gage for my 416 Warner is topped off with a .750 sphere.

Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

    For example, Use a 7/16. .4375 diameter in a 308 win.

Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

Well, thats one way, but good luck finding a ball that diameter. Just use one that is smaller than the junction diameter ---- forget about the head space datum line diameter. Work it from the should/ body junction.

Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

OK, Start with the diameter at the body/shoulder junction. Lay in a sphere that is known and smaller than that diameter. Now , do the Trig to determine the distance the center of the ball is below/ or above the body/shoulder line. Now you know from add/ subtract how far it is to the bolt face...

Gunsmithing Setting Head Space with an Empty case?

Nice to know a few people pay attention. The rest of ya will have to repeat 8th grade. Take it lightly, I CANT EVEN BEGIN TO DO ASPHERIC FORMULAS on paper, much less In my head like a few Guys I know!

The "perks" of loading for your buddies!

Yea, could be. Double drawn and Rockwell tested good, so I just don't know, for sure. Had one other from the same lot in460 Styre Do the same thing. Al the rest are out there working fine. Both appeared dry of lube when I got them returned. Shit happens!

    Bartlein New Barrel Material 400MODBB

Certainly makes you think and ask if the brave ones who rode those rockets knew all that was at stake. A guy I know bought a broken glass stock from me years ago and said "hell, we sent people in space in pods made of dog hair and glue, I can fix it. Yikes!

    Bartlein New Barrel Material 400MODBB

For what its worth, I made molds for the space walk life support systems and molds for the nose and wings of the shuttle tiles. Engineers told me they are replaced after each flight at about 3million per shot. When we get a ceramic lined barrel, I would surely pay 10G for it. 98 % of the heat...

    Bartlein New Barrel Material 400MODBB

An infused ceramic matrix is next. It's being done on exposed optical surfaces now. Inside a barrel poses a lot of problems to overcome. Maybe another 5 or 10 years.

Monolithic solid projectiles in polygonal rifling

Actually, Flat Lines need more powder to get to velocity with the same weight pill because os reduced bearing surface. Similar to using moly.

Monolithic solid projectiles in polygonal rifling

What Theis said. Talk to David. He has a lot of experience with poly barrels. IIRC, he told me he saw higher velocities with Polys @ same charge amount than 4 groove or 5rs.

    37XC build

Most likely because 15 over ambient put you over what the brass will withstand. Work hardening at the bottom limits sizing via springback. The only way to try to reclaim that brass is push thru die to sweage the base diameter back to as new Sometimes that works, sometimes not Your extractor...

    37XC build

Jason Your brass is fatigued. Start over with new stuff I'm experimenting with the same condition with Barrett brass . Most of what I,m seeing is a lot of guys are running at the top or over to obtain velocities. Not good. Just made up 12 pieces RWS into 416 Barrett to see what shakes out...
