Gunsmithing Gunsmith that does hand checkering on pistol straps

A few issues here. Hand checkering is out because it’s already anodized. That leaves something like laser. Finding someone to write the program for a one off job would be tough and cost prohibitive. Skateboard grip tape is the obvious solution.

Gunsmithing Any thoughts on structured barrels?

It’s a nifty idea and novel approach. But as others have said likely not worth the gains for the average shooter. From what I’ve researched the main benefit outside of cooling is the fact that it dampens harmonics and in doing so it shoots well with a huge variety of loads and very little poi...

Rifle Scopes Arken Optics vs Vortex Strike Eagle vs SWFA HD 10x, etc.

Arken punches above its weight class because it’s a new company and they are working out The kinks so they are selling at a small discount. That being said the scope feels solid and they’ll stand by it. Only issue is you may have a wait because demand is high depending on the model. I do believe...

PRS Talk $3k Budget Tikka Rifle Build vs $9k Custom Precision Rifle Build

Watched the video series and it was fun. Running a new budget build myself I’ve been tossing around switching from my factory Bergara HMR stock to either a Bravo or a Xray. The main reason is to add the adjustability of the butt and the ease of adding weight, rail etc. That being said I’m...

Rifle Scopes Scopes Will Not Keep Zero, Help!

There are so many things missing here that it’s almost impossible to diagnose. You didn’t mention the ammo you are using and whether you are changing loads from one range session to the next. You mention shooting off the bench as “bench resting”, whatever that means, yet said you are not using...

Rifle Scopes Arken EP4 vs SH4 gen 2?

The new EP4s are shipping with larger dots on the new reticle apparently. That was needed. Hopefully they’ll add the VPR as well.

Rifle Scopes Bushnell XRS2 and DMR2 for a steal on Midway

For what it’s worth. If you get a scope for $899 plus a $100 gift card you most certainly did not get a scope for $799 effectively. You still spend $899 with Midway. I learned this lesson years ago when I told my wife I’d saved $250 on a $1000 item. She reminded me, “ you didn’t save anything...

    Rifle Scopes ATHOLON CUSTOMER SERVICE

The only experience I had initially bothered me because I got no communication that they received my warranty job. A week later a brand new scope showed up in the mail. No questions asked. I’ll not complain

Are rear bean bag riders useful or a gimmick?

An angled bag rider will allow elevation adjustment but it also negates the whole purpose of a bag rider. And that is to have the rifle recoil on a level plane straight back. When the bag rider is angled the recoil is directed down on rear at the butt. This raises the muzzle as the rifle is in...

What’s the muzzle diameter on that 6mm barrel. I need to sock one away for my Bergara and this may fill the bill.

Accessories WTB: Bipod that cants side to side (e.g. Atlas)

If it’s not for hard use, thought I still believe this would likely stand up to it, pick up a UTG Recon 360. About $75 and one of the best cheap bipods I’ve ever used. Believe it or not.

    New Shooter trying to decide

And this brings up a good point. A .308 can be set up with minimal recoil. But with a lightweight gun like a polymer stocked Tikka it will likely be more than the new shooter is expecting. That being said, does the new shooter know how to set up a rifle and is he willing to restock or switch to...

    New Shooter trying to decide

All this talk about putting a beginner a heavier recoiling rifle to prepare you for shooting a milder rifle baffles me. Obviously one can learn to control recoil on a .308 and shoot better with a 6.5. It there’s no reason you can’t learn the same fundamentals on a softer shooting gun. The...

what are you guys using for tough tactical combat pants?

Kuhl Free Ryder. If you are a slim guy. Kuhl Ryder if you are average size. Once I switched to Kuhl pants I wear nothing else. Built like a tank. https://www.kuhl.com/kuhl/mens/pants/rydr-lean-fit/

Rifle Scopes What is this Forged carbon mount black magic??

It’s seems like overkill for a hunting rig, and with guys buying extra weight to make guns heavier, I just don’t get it. I suppose on an AR go fast platform it might be a decent idea.

    Bergara HMR new owner questions

My HMR Pro was spotless. I broke it in with 10 rounds just for the hell of it. Likely didn’t need it. My sons B14 HMR was a bit dirtier in the bore. I cleaned it well. Then went straight to shooting. I now clean every 200-250 rounds. You should be happy. They’re all typically good shooters.

What shooting mat are you using?

I’ve been using an NCStar Vism mat. Yeah the same NCStar that makes cheap scopes.about $32 bucks. But a mat is a simple tool and this one is made right. I’ve never had a reason to spend more. Now here’s a trick to help your shooting. Cut a slit on the top of the mat about an inch back and...

Optics Scammer amongst us - “wading”

Another victim of PayPal here. Be careful using them for selling of guns or parts. As an engraver who teaches the trade, I sell plastic castings on my website, of engraved gun parts for students to study the engraving. PayPal saw “1911 Slide” in the description and that was all it took to shut...
