HALO LR - why are they so cheap now?

Looks like these things are selling for $4500-5000 used, which is well below dealer cost. A year ago you could get $6000+ for them. Why are they selling so cheap on the used market?

Help me choose a caliber/barrel length for a suppressed deer gun

In my opinion the sweet spot for deer is the smaller 6mm-6.5mm cartridges like 243 or 6.5 creed. The terminal ballistics are very consistent and results in minimal meat loss more times than not.

Reasons people compete, and what grows the sport.

If you have a low stress job, no family, or other major responsibilities then you should probably have a hobby like competitive shooting to balance out your life. But if you have a high stress job, family, and lots of responsibilities, then you definitely should.

    TAC OPS / KMW Collaboration

Agreed. Shooting low 1's is pretty unreal even indoors. I have had exactly two barrels out of maybe 20-30 that would shoot 1's semi-regularly (and sometimes 0's), and only one of them shot 5 groups back to back on one piece of paper that average in the 1's. Both Bartleins. I pulled the best...

PRS Talk Best target distance/size for practice..?

100-300 yards is great for working on shrinking your group size. I like 400-500 when working on positional skills like managing recoil, transitions, building & rebuilding positions, etc. Then use the entire range, 300-1000 for truing up data the kestrel. 2-2.5 moa is great for improving your...

what's the go to caliber for PRS

Any of the 6s or 6.5s will be competitive. 6 is going to be more forgiving from a recoil perspective, and 6.5 will show up noticeably better on a plate or in the dirt beyond 800 yards. Wind difference is going to be negligible. I lean towards a 109-115gr 6mm @ 2900-3000 as being a do-all for...

What's really with the original (non-OCD) Alpha brass?

I got some of the first batches of 308 and 6.5 creed brass just before it was getting sent out to the public. It was very consistent, and in a couple of chambers it worked well, and in others it had heavy bolt lift with very minimal charge weights and velocities. Their dasher brass had similar...

    Chassis right or left

One of my left eye dominant high power buddies shot for years right handed, and within a couple of months of switching to left hand he blew his old PR's out of the water. I think using your dominant eye improves eye hand coordination and balance overall from better visual feedback.

    Chassis right or left

+1 for LH. There are a lot more left eye dominant people than left hand dominant. The problem is up until the last decade or two there weren't many options, and kids are still learning on granpappy's right hand rifle so they continue the cycle. Statistically 1/3 of the population of left eye...

    Match Directors, Promote it smarter,

Matches should be a test (maybe test isn’t the right word) of trainable skills and fundamentals. IMO, using a sling is a fundamental skill, as is ranging and dialing on the fly, but what if you showed up and on day 1 the MD says “no bags, slings only, everything is unknown distance and you have...

Exactly. If we know what to expect it’s much easier to train for the event.

Thermal is the least expensive part of night hunting. Just buy something nice you enjoy and when you upgrade just keep the old one as a backup or a loaner for your buddies.
