Loaded my first Handloads ever. 6.5cm. Issues/questions

There are several reasons that you see the swipe, one of them is pressure. Based on other signs such as the shape of the fired primer, the firing pin depression, and your other fired cases, most likely you are not yet getting high pressure. If a fired case fits easily into the chamber then...

    Reloads, or Burned Out Barrel?

What did it do at 100 yards? I had an expensive scope go bad. Over time I got a fuzzy image at 1k, parallax dial didn't do anything, and it was shooting 1 to 1.5 mil patterns. Swapped on a known good scope, did a 100 yard zero, dialed for 1k and shot a nice group. The gun is good but the...

    Help bumping shoulder...strange results

To each his own. My combination of techniques gives me very consistent headspace. I can't think of a technique that works better than that. For what's worth, I select a tool based on its utility and fitness to a particular purpose, not it's cost. In my opinion, "cheap" and "works really...

    Help bumping shoulder...strange results

I agree on feeding, I have the same problem. You didn't read my post. I said: If you want a -.001 bump use the .007 shim. If you want -.002 bump use the .006 shim. If you want a minus one thousandth bump, use the .007 shim. Remember, I had him start with a .008 shim and then adjust the die...

    Help bumping shoulder...strange results

If you like being able to adjust the bump, here is a technique. buy these shims put the .008 shim under your die lock ring. Adjust die and size cases until the the brass is being sized to the same as the chamber* lock down the die lock ring** If you want a -.001 bump use the .007 shim. If...

    MOA and Milrad Turret Calculations

When viewing a target and your POI is not at your POA, why would you care how many inches off you are? Your aiming device is what you use to aim with and it measures angles. It has (or should have) turrets with some angle measurement and a reticle with tick marks in the same angle units - MOA...

    Can I use this powder?

Regarding 10 rounds of "vintage" H1000 powder at charge 76.7, the old stuff shot the same as the new stuff. At 1k the POI was pretty close to 76.9, 77.0, and 77.1. As I went up from 76.9 to 77.2 I had clicks and showed a tiny bit of ejector dimple - more powder, more click. I'm going to go...

    Can I use this powder?

I am shooting a 300 PRC with Berger 230s, Lapua brass, and federal 215M. It seems to like new H1000 77.0 grains. I made 15 each 76.9, 77.0, and 77.1 and 5 rounds of 77.2 using new H1000. I plan to shoot them on Saturday. I plan to work my way out to 1k using 76.9 then shoot a group. Then...

    Can I use this powder?

I asked Hodgdon. They sent the attached doc (original was in Microsoft Word format). It says that bad powder will contain reddish clumps and smell sour (acidic) instead of smelling of acetone. They also said to pour some on a sheet of white paper and look for red dust. I have no red clumps...

    Can I use this powder?

Some time ago, I watched Skip Otto do that with Vit 133 in 6ppc cases. He was trying to minimize flight time. It sort of worked but it was hard on barrels. I'm not sure how many times he did it. It might have been just once but it seems to me that he did it for a couple national matches. He...

    Can I use this powder?

Hi guys, 8 pounds of vintage H1000. Metal cap. Note the reddish "rust" around the cap. Good? Or, not good? Smells like acetone, does not smell sour.

    Eric cortina seating depth

Maybe off-topic, a little. I am out of BR now. Some years ago, I used to watch Mr. Boyer shoot matches - with his funny hat. He did not win by shooting a lot of small groups. At that time, he won because he almost never shot a big group. The man had great aggregate scores. He was the...

    Eric cortina seating depth

Ever shot a big 3-shot group, then added more shots to it, and the group got smaller? If it starts out small, it might stay small. If it starts out big, move on - unless it was you. That is the value of small 3-shot groups - they help you sort the wheat from the chaff.

When making 300 grain solids for a 375 H&H, I crimp. Otherwise, not.

    Velocity- Accuracy Relationship Question

"You then change powders to brand Y but change nothing else ( same seating depth ) and find a powder charge weight with that new powder that duplicates the 2700fps average." The reason a given load shoots well in a given rifle (ignoring such things as the shooter, rest, wind, etc) is the timing...

    Heavy Bolt With Mild Load

I want to talk about the cases. Call the bottom row A, next row up B, third from the bottom C, and so forth. First case on the left is 1, center is 2, right case is 3. I see ejector swipe on A1 and A2, B1, C3, maybe on C2. Ejector swipe is caused by case brass being forced into the ejector...

    Vibratory Tumbler Recommendations

I bought a Dillon 750 in the mid-1990s. In 1999, I thought I had a problem with it so I called and received a RMA number. Turned out that I didn't really have a problem so I didn't send it in. In 2022, one of the motor bearings failed completely. I called and they found the RMA and noticed...

Case Prep: What are you using?

Bench-Source Annealer. As you will be told, no doubt at very high volume, there are other annealer tools. Giraud case trimmer - separate cutter heads by caliber, lock rings on the case holders. I think that flash hole debur is a good thing - only do it once per case. 21st century expander...

    Case Gauges?

Yup, you're right. I went back to the instructions and what you are describing is what they built it for. The minimum chamber gauge would be the correct Wilson tool. The only time I used brass where the headstamp was different from the caliber was Lapua 220 Russian neck-expanded to 6 PPC...
