Is the Chargemaster Supreme a solid choice for a beginner?

Umm, the second one hurts1 I know from experience. I modified my procedure so that I only load in 25 round batches. Dump 25 loads. Then seat 25 bullets. QC that batch. When dumping powder I will put 25 cases in a 50 round loading block all to one side. Load 5 then move to the far end so...

Is the Chargemaster Supreme a solid choice for a beginner?

I recently went through swapping from the Chargemaster 1500 to this route but using a cheap little Gem 20 scale which has proven to be quite consistent. It takes about the same time. But my last batch of loads I went back to the 1500. The problem with consistency with the Chargemaster 1500 is...

    Mixing powder

The devil is in the details. It depends on how they are mixed. And how close you want to be to a uniform mix. Think in these terms. You take an 8lb jug and you put in 1lb of red sand first and 1 lb of white sand on top of the red in the jug. You cap it and turn it upside down and then back...

    Mixing powder

I don't have any test or analysis other than the 43 years of experience in industry some of which involved sampling and testing of mixed granular materials, predominately coal. I personally don't care whether you believe me or not. But since you seem to be claiming that you can mix lots and...

    Mixing powder

So that test (@4Gunguy) has no control in that you do not know the variations in the powder lots or the various weights that make up the mix, would there have been a significant variation in the velocity of any of the lots in the mix? The test he actually ran was comparing a random sample of a...

    Mixing powder

Nope just a fact. Didn't say not to do it but if you've never actually worked with mixing two or more batches of fine granulated materials and tested the mix you have no idea whether you have a true mix or what it takes to get one.

    Mixing powder

Sounds simple but in reality if there is much difference in the lots its going to be difficult to actually get a consistent mix of 8 lbs. You will need a much larger container than an 8 lb jug. You would also need to mix up the addition of the powder so the powder lots starts out with some...

How long should a FL resizing die last?

You should be able to check the case diameter in the 0.200" area. I'm guessing your chamber is +/- 0.471" at that point and if the case is at that point you may be seeing pressure signs in the brass and the die may not be resizing the case enough at that point. It sounds like this is the case...

    Inconsistent POI.

Yep. It can be hard to get repeatable results of a bench. Especially when you wait 20 minutes and get up or move around then go back to the rifle. This is my nemesis especially doing load development with OCW shot round robin. In addition to feeling where the rifle is in your shoulder pay...

Need advice on my AR load development

I would guess the one you would choose depends on what you are trying to achieve. You can pick the single digit SD or you can pick the one that is likely more accurate. It not likely that the "flyer" is due to velocity at 100yd.. If you didn't have chronograph data which would you choose...

    Load Development - Process

BS Physics and MS Mechanical Engineering here. I kinda picked on your test because you put some good targets up and I took it as an opportunity make some very general observations and comments, not specifically to criticize what you had done. Things like the target POI is fine when you go about...

    Load Development - Process

I found your test interesting and I have a few comments on the test and its results. The first is about your jam data. You are incrementing in 0.001" increments with is extremely small. I am assuming this is the "as loaded" calculated jams. My question would be is this the actual jamb that...

Tikka 260 Rem - First 9 Shots With Different Charge Weights Have Flyers

@LRShooter101 makes a good point on last shot mentality and I have seen this myself but not as consistent as you seem to be. As for velocity while you do need to work on your consistency but that is not what is moving the POI on the third shot. Assuming a 100yd target and just about any...

Tikka 260 Rem - First 9 Shots With Different Charge Weights Have Flyers

I looked but didn't see that. But that looks like what is happening. I don't think it is anything with your load. If you are shooting round robin that could possibly be the issue. You may not be getting on the rifle the same as the first two rounds. You can try 5 shots but as Dan Newberry...

Tikka 260 Rem - First 9 Shots With Different Charge Weights Have Flyers

It looks nice and repeatable. You appear to be shooting a sporter barrel and the effect is due to that. The barrel is heating up. IF this is a hunting rifle you are good to go as you shouldn't need more than 2 shots and if the third is repeatable you will know how to handle it.

Anyone spouting a minimum of 2900 fps for a 168 in 308 definitely should not be listened to.

Is this a good setup for a new guy?

Yep, Kernel. Actually the resolution is 0.02 grains so the scale can drift up to 0.019 gr and you will not know it. But the scale repeatability is 0.001 grams or .01543 gns (1 standard deviation). For 95% repeatability that is 2x.01543gn or .031 gn. So the actual repeatability of the scale is...
