Centerfire can on a rim fire

I can tell you from doing repairs on suppressors for the last 20 years that running rimfire through a high power can is a bad idea. For the same reason 22 rimfire cans need to come apart you should limit running rimfire through your centerfire cans. You will get buildup of fouling both soft and...

    Desert Tech MDR Opinions?

I built a 6.5X47 for a friend and he has been shooting it quite a bit. Accuracy is excellent but my barrel is 2" longer than factory and heavier. I also put in a much smaller gas port. There are still some issues with overboosting due to the location of the gasport which is too close to the...

The biggest issue with trying to save on conversions is the bolt and magazine which add about $400 to the cost. If you don't need them than having someone make you a barrel is a great way to go and a better alternate than buying a whole conversion. I'd rather make up my own barrels and buy the...

    Necking up brass

You might find that annealing the cases prior to expanding the necks might get you crushed cases or inside out necks. Your mileage may vary of course but most I've seen have expanded then annealed. Its a shame to waste cases. frank

Its my understanding that the skins from the A1 won't fit the earlier receivers so no real way to mod the rifle for a cheek rest. Most of us don't need it anyway but for those who wanted something on their early rifle there were pads made by someone to do the job. I've seen a couple different...

Anyone know if Hollywood has to adhere to the same ATF rules?

Most of the hollywood stuff is dummy. Sound is done by going to a range and having someone who knows what they're doing or at least has the guns they need and recording shots, burst etc. A friend did quite a bit of shooting for "Saving Private Ryan" and the crew carried a lot of dummy guns. What...

Removing case lube after full length resizing

With lube it will increase the amount of thrust against the face of the bolt by the cartridge. Normally the case sticks to the chamber wall when the pressure is high and only the case head will push the bolt face by stretching the case. Over time it does create the ring that promotes case head...

    .375 Cheytac press

I've been using the RCBS ammo master for years to load 20mm Solothurn ammo so the little stuff like 50 BMG and 375 CT are gravy. It will take either the standard 7/8" dies or by removing the bushing will work with the 1.5" dies as well. I made a bushing for a friend to use his 1.25" dies on his...

The new 33XC & 37XC cartridges designed by David Tubb

I used the Dave Manson reamer with the .1 freebore and have had no issues at all with the dies or chamber. I bought the throater for the jacketed bullets too in case anyone wanted to shoot them but so far no takers. Everyone has wanted to run solids. I don't know of anyone else having problems...

I'm looking at maybe doing a few for myself and friends. Wondering how much interest there is from the rest and whether its worth fiddling with. I have seen a goodly number of broken plastic rails and damaged screw holes in the handguards. Why did they use only 3 screws in the 65 thou thick...

Who was making the aluminum replacement rails for the stupid plastic DT A1 bipod mounting rails....what was the cost? Frank

The new 33XC & 37XC cartridges designed by David Tubb

Having no primer information makes it really tough. I found that the standard match large rifle primers worked best in my 33XC as I was seeing pressure signs at much lower charge weights and resulting in lower velocity and accuracy with the Magnum match primers. Unfortunately there is no way to...

Since its a single shot setup for the 33 or 37XC how can there be any feed problems? I use a sled for mine in place of the magazine. A friend 3D printed a number of them.....don't know if he has them but he's on the board if he does. I also tried feeding with the 338LM mag in place and it works...

Unless they changed something with the A2 the threads have been 1 1/16 -16 since they started. I've done a lot of them for the original guns and the Gen II. I've swapped a lot of barrel extensions as well. The A1's are all Gen II. The only difference in the Gen I vs Gen II barrels is the...

It seems the socialists demand that we recognize the rights of criminals, deviants and those who want to "identify" as other than they really are but for some reason believe they also have the right to limit and condemn anything we do. We as in normal Americans, who shouldn't have to defend...

What are you using for brass organizing?

MTM cartridge boxes keep the cases together as a family and separated by make, model and number of loadings. I buy the 50rd boxes for most of the rifle stuff and that way I can keep track of batches. With the tags and cards supplied with the boxes I know how many times they've been fired, what...

    37XC build

Just wondering if there is enough of an advantage to the 37 over the 33 to make it worth fooling with. Already have the 33XC setup in the Desert Tactical and its proven to be excellent for accuracy and range. Will the 375 dia gain much over the 338 to make it worth it? Frank

    Brass or steel cased ammo?

Military ammo varies by manufacturer and date of production as well as how it was stored. Most of it is surplus for a reason whether steel or brass. The material its manufactured from is less of a worry than whether its bad ammo. There were various lots imported over the years that were...

    Brass or steel cased ammo?

Steel cased ammo is cheaper to manufacture and is generally less accurate than match grade stuff made from brass. Most of the east bloc countries made steel cased ammo because of cost so don't expect great accuracy from it. On the other hand most of the military brass cased ammo isn't a lot...
