    PRS Talk What a bummer.

It's to bad we cant have nice things! I remember when we all used SH to communicate about upcoming matches and stuff....... now it's all FB including their side of this story posted this morning...... in reality either medium works but these message boards are way better at archiving...

    Rifle Scopes Mk8 vs. mk5

I run Leupold scopes exclusively (5,6 & 8's)including the original mk8's with the locking dials and illumination ...... the new mk8's without illumination share the same lock on 0 elevation but turn free once off zero as the mk5's but the glass is noticeably better than the mk5 series in my...

    PRS Trophy Buckles?

I know a guy who knows a guy who put these on a prize table once! buckles are a big deal down here in the SW and are pretty common in lots of contests, from 3D archery to hunting contests and certainly livestock shows and rodeo.......

    Gunsmithing Polishing a new chamber?

Agreed.... proper headspace and loading technique will likely effect brass life much more......... it might be a fun project to rebarrel a couple take off blanks with different polish methods and split a lot of new brass to load/shoot to failure and see it if there's a measured difference but...

    Gunsmithing Polishing a new chamber?

I agree it's was an interesting read........high polish for brass life and rough finish for lower bolt thrust is what I took away....... thinking I'll stay in the middle and continue a quick touch up with 400 grit wrapped in a dowell immediately after chambering, seems to be working fine for me.

Gunsmithing Unsupported case wall = big Kaboom?

I don't see the point in cutting any chamfer on any tennon with a bolt nose recess, it seems that the .150" recess would serve the propose of allowing the case to chamber easily enough...... i personally round the edge with a file slightly so it dosent scratch cases. Chad said it best above...

Gunsmithing Unsupported case wall = big Kaboom?

Who in the world would cut something like that... Lucky it took 30 rounds..... should have let go on the first round fired! Would be interested what the brass looked like and if it caused any damage to the bolt/action.

    Hearing Protection. Need advice

Some are definitely louder than others...... I've switched over to mainly shooting suppressed but have shot a couple muzzle breaks ( Jim see and APA little bastards) with my ESP's and did ok...... my bigger issue comes when laying on a line with others running breaks and I find I'd like a...

    Gunsmithing With New > 150 grain 6.5m bullets a 7 twist a reality in terms of 6.5x284

I shoot them in a 6.5-06AI at 3,100 from an 8 twist at 6,000 ASL with no problems. Also have done quite a few on 7.5 twist, mainly for Creedmoor sized sized cases at 2,700-2,800 ish and they work fine. 7 twist is a little fast in my opinion and practical experience with the Sierra 150's. I...

    Gunsmithing Muzzle runout

Like most, some runout is normal but that seems excessive.....not sure what you can do about it but make sure and time the high to the top or bottom of the receiver..... mark the high point on top of the blank and index the tennon until it's at 12'0 clock.... holler back if you got any questions

Gunsmithing Need help finding right 75 grain load for 1:7 twist 5.56 build

I would not think the break would affect it, especially cause the 55's shoot good thought it......you could check and make sure the bullets aren't hitting it on exit and may need to open it up slightly Like the others stated, more likely the throat in the chamber.... what's your OAL to where...

    Any other PLRF15c owners?

At 100 yds my money would be on the lazer over the GPS...... how much slope is involved? Pull a tape measure at 100, measure with both your devices and see which one lying to you!! It would take a 30% slope to roughly replicate your numbers......... your firing point would be 28 yards...

    Gunsmithing New barrel/bedding question.

No....... if your barrel is free floated there should not be a problem as the material won't extend past the action. Even with a stock bedded with 1-2" chamber support changing a barrel will likely not be an issue as The cylinder length and diameters usually match.... I've even swapped barrel...

Range Report 25 cal for comps

Just buy enough bullets at one time to last the life of the barrel..... that's my plan, picked up 2k and looking forward to now worrying about what I'm going to shoot this year!

1:7" twist in 6.5mm...what's it for?

Basically we should be looking to optimize the twist rate for the intended bullet and expected velocity range....... longer bullets need faster twist but shoot them faster and less twist is required..... hitting the sweet spot will maximize the BC. For instance, I'm trying the new 25 caliber...

Range Report 25 cal for comps

Totally agree on the issue of barrel life.... it all depends on how fast your shoot them and for how long, long strings torch throats for sure. Did some more validation today, basically confirmed my previous thoughts...... would up using a banded BC is my shooter app on iPhone to line...
