700P or a 5R milspec?

I am looking for a good rifle for about $1000. Right now i am stuck between a 700P and the 700SS 5R milspec. Any suggestions?

Rifle Scopes Yet another ring height question....

I am new to this, and i am currently not in country to look or measure anything hands on. When i get back i will have a Remington 700 sps tactical, Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50, Seekins 20moa base, and Burris Xtreme Tactical rings. I want the scope as low as possible. I was thinkin medium...
