Gunsmithing What happened to the "bolt knob jig" thread?

I was enjoying reading about the Savage bolt knob modifications and it up and disappeared. What happened to it?

    Which 7mm on which Savage?

I'm planning a budget build (I'm retired) to shoot 1000 yards and maybe beyond with a bipod from a bench (my 64 year old joints aren't as flexible as they once were). I want to go with a 7mm caliber and I'm leaning toward a SAUM or 284 Winchester. And which Savage model/caliber should I choose...

    Alliant 4000-MR

I'm shooting the new Alliant 4000-MR in my 243 wssm with hBN coated 105 A-Max's. This powder seems to be leaving a lot of carbon in the throat area. Anybody else burning this powder? What is the cleanest burning powder in the RL-22 burn rate range?

Gunsmithing Is .003" enough for neck expansion?

I just had a rifle chambered with the 243 WSSM Match reamer. My loaded brass has a neck diameter of .284". The reamer's neck diameter was .282". So the gunsmith is going to ream the neck to .287". Is this enough clearance?

270 WSM to 7mm WSM conversion questions

I've got a 270 WSM hunting rifle, 24" 10 twist sporter barrel. I now live and travel in a motorhome and I haven't hunted with the gun for three years. I'm going to try shooting steel out to 1000 yards with it when I get back to OH this summer. I know the sporter barrel is not a good choice...

    105 AMax to 1200 yards

I'm planning a 243 wssm build and want to shoot the 105 AMax out to 1200 yards. 900' elevation, 75 degrees air temp. Questions: In order to keep pressure down and also be able to shoot lighter bullets on occasion, what is the minimum twist I can use? What muzzle velocity is needed to stay above...

Which barrel/load combo would you choose.

I'm planning on replacing my shot out 223 wssm barrel with a 243 wssm. I want to shoot steel, groundhogs, and prairie dogs out to 1200 yards, so I have chosen the 105 A-Max. I ran some scenarios on QuickLoad and I'm narrowed down to three choices. Twist will be 1:8. 1. 28" barrel, 58146 PSI...

    Range Report Beyond Sonic

My 19 year old grandson shot & killed a woodchuck last summer at a confirmed 884 yards with my Savage 22-250. Terminal velocity was 1089 FPS. I don't know whether that is trans-sonic or sub-sonic, but in either case, the groundhog didn't care. After reading about the British sniper and the...

Range Report OBT and different barrel lengths

I think some you here use QuickLoad and know about Chris Long's OBT theory. So herre is a topic I posted over at the WSSMzone forum. Earlier today, I was researching what twist and length barrel I would like to go to if I re-barrel my 223 wssm to a 243 wssm. So I worked up a load with...

First 2" of throat shot out.

Greetings Guys, Newbie here. I have a 223 WSSM with a 9 twist Kreiger 27" barrel that has the throat gone. It did shoot a woodchuck at 821 yards last summer in Ohio. I'm currently in AZ and will be back in OH in May. I think I will have my OH gunsmith put a 26" 8 twist 243 WSSM barrel on it...
