Scope and Mount for Varmint AR15

I am building an AR Varmint rifle and looking for a good quality mount and scope. Would like to spend around $500 or less. Sorry a newbie here so not sure if using proper terminology. Any suggestion and web links welcome.

Newbie looking for first 308 Rifle set up

I really want to learn to become a long range marksman. Bought my son a Savage 17hmr with a decent scope to get him interested to instead of just wanting to do shootem up like all the dumb video games. Anyway, I would like to figure out a nice 308 rig for myself. I have done some reloading...
