Well thanks for all of the information folks. I'm going to look at pros and cons between Badger and CDI and go with one of those routes. I'm going to ask my local gunshop (The Camp-Site in Huntington, NY) and compare against sending in my gun to CDI (since in NY, I'll have to have it shipped...
Ok - so I'm going to look at either the PTG or CDI, since both use AICS mags (which I hear are preferable of the HS proprietary ones. However, if I choose to send it anywhere, I cannot receive it directly because I live in NY and we have the SAFE act (has to go to FFL). I have a local gunshop...
I checked out their site and it appears as though they could send the whole setup to my FFL, where I can have it inletted. Do you suppose much smithing is needed? The 5R comes with an HS Grey stock, which I think takes very little effort to make these DBMs fit. True? -Ace
Hi all. I'm looking to install a DBM on my stock 5r Milspec and I don't want to swap the stock. I'd also like to keep any inletting as minimal as possible. Could someone recommend a few? I've seen HS, Wyatt, Badger, but really need some real-life input from you guys. My gun specs are...
The noise is not terribly loud. In fact, you need to have your cheek on the stock (or ear near the scope) and no other sound in order to hear the "creaking" sound I'm talking about.
As a background, I mounted a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP scope on 30mm Medium Seekins Rings, mounted to a Seekins Picatinny Base. All of this is sitting on Remmy 700 5R milspec. I had the the base, rings and scope mounted at my LGS and from what I gather, everything was torqued properly...
I want to, but not sure if I'm going to make it before 4. I just bought a 5R Milspec and Vortex PST that I'm having mounted and bore-sighted at Camp-Site, so not sure how long that will take. However, I'll be there next weekend. -Ace
Bump to the thread and new to the forums: I'm from Baiting Hollow Area, but living in Forest Hills at the moment. I go out to Calverton (since it's near the house). Any active shooters from LI still here?
Update 2: I purchased the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP EBR-1 MOA from CameraLand in NYC and got a great deal (got 10% on a brand new unit). Can't wait to mount this baby - it's a beauty. Ace
I'll keep that in mind. If anything I might visit ranges near you, as they are likely a greater distance than what we have out here on Long Island. I'll check them out, but for that price, the Vortex and Nikon's are a bit more feature-packed. I'm not, however, ruling out used glass. My LGS has...
An update: -I picked up Seekins Precision 20 MOA Base and Seekins 30mm Medium rings. -I plan on mounting either a Vortex PST or HS-LR, Leupold VX-R, or Monarch 3 / M308. -I also bought the Harris Bi-Pod 6-9 in Smooth with a Pod-Loc. -I picked up a Caldwell DeadShot Boxed Front and Rear...
This is a good point. Upstate NY has a lot of dense coverage in areas, and I know that scopes like the Monarch are capped and reset to Zero so as prevent accidental changes. The research continues . .. =)
I'm likely going to stick with HS Stock for the time being and spend the money on good glass first. From what I hear, the resell on the HS stock is decent and I can always upgrade at a later date. I'll definitely take to the forums and read up on what I can. Thanks for the advice on the...
Hi All: I'm new to Sniper's Hide, and to precision shooting. I recently bought a Remington 700 5R Milspec chambered in a .308 - 24in. I don't have any pictures yet since the rifle is on order and should arrive in a couple of weeks. I've only ever shot Win .22's before and a friend's 30.06 //...
