    Reamer bottomed out

I guess that’s better than a bent operating rod? 🤷‍♂️

    Reamer bottomed out

I believe so. I just got off the phone with the CMP Armory and they said they won’t even use PTG reamers because of inconsistencies and problems. They confirmed as long as The bolt will just close on the GO gauge and not close on the NOGO gauge then I’m fine.

    Reamer bottomed out

Well so far at this point it seems like if there is an issue with the wrong parts, they were undersized. That said, I’ll give PTG a phone call and see what the actual dimensions of the go gauge should be and check mine with the micrometer.

    Reamer bottomed out

Yes, finish reaming a short-chambered Criterion barrel in 30-06. It a Pacific Tool and Gauge reamer.

    Reamer bottomed out

So while reaming out the chamber on my M1 Garand, it got to the point where the bolt was totally seated and the reamer wasn’t making contact with the chamber anymore. Problem was, the go gauge was far from allowing the bolt to seat. I had to take the bolt back and just push the reamer forward...

Rifle Scopes Burris XTR II 1-8 RFP

This topic may very well have been previously discussed, but here goes anyway. I have the Burris XTR II 1-8 with ballistic reticle RFP. I really don't like the fact that my 200-500 yard holdover marks are sort of "functionless" unless set on full power magnification. If I have a target I want to...

    M40 Build Guide

Wow....not only was that post only 3 months ago, but it was mine. Man is sucks getting old!!! Okay, I'll try and find a machine shop sensitive to rifles. Problem is (here in Kentucky) all the gunsmiths I've contacted are either scared to try or try and B.S. me by saying it's illegal to stamp...

    M40 Build Guide

Okay everybody, I know this has been addressed somewhere in this monstrosity of a thread but I'm ready to get my receiver stamped with the U.S.. Can anyone point out the page or pages where this discussion starts please? I'm interested in the font size and any tips to stamping the receiver...

    M40 Build Guide

I'm starting to agree regarding the stock inletting. I've built two flintlocks from scratch which require a huge amount of inletting, but Rem. 700 receivers aren't any mystery. If a stock maker can get it to 95%, they should be able to finish the last 5%. I actually have some brass welding...

I do have a question. I also have a Silverhill stock and I noticed yours has a brass pin. Did you install this yourself? thanks

    M40 Build Guide

Honestly, it does look heavier. I've measured with calipers and compared to the original '68 barrel that came on the rifle and it's dead on. I can only assume that in the white, the glare and reflection make it appear heavier. Once I get it coated, it should look correct. After all, dark is...

    M40 Build Guide

I just wanted to post an update for my build. I've got the metal 99% inletetted and am ready to send the barrel/receiver for coating. This project is so close now I can feel the trigger break!

    M40 Build Guide

Mesa, thanks for all the color suggestions. I'll have to give them all a look-see. I've heard from a couple sources that Kedron at Modern Tactical blends his own colors and is a genius with Cerakote accurately matching most vintage military colors. They have a great video on their process as...

    M40 Build Guide

Well....that seems to be the million dollar question. They have a "Sniper Gray" that matches the M40a1 I used to carry, but I've never looked at an M40 to judge the color. Since my build is an original '68 rifle, I figured I would leave the bottom metal the factory matte black (I thought I...

    M40 Build Guide

Like I previously mentioned, Rob with Silverhill is aware and has corrected the problem. I just received my replacement stock and had the barreled action in place in less than a half hour. Now just need to send the barreled action off to get it Cerakote'd.
