    M1A Bedding

BCP.... sounds like "unitizing the gas system" may mean attaching the front band to the back end of the gas cylinder? The AMTU manual gives instructions for gluing and screwing them together, but after seeing a couple of spindle valve ends blow off, I started tack welding the band to the gas...

    M1A Bedding

P.I.T.A. is right, worth it is also right. Don't know what the unitized gas system is about, but I'm out of touch. Last time at Perry was 1986. Clint Pyle was doing a big business on Commercial Row with lugged receivers. I never bought into it because my rifle was already better than I was...

    M1A Bedding

I've seen them shoot close to moa in a good fitting walnut or birch stock, but my experience is you'll never know what the rifle's capable of without bedding it. A good one can shoot 1/2 moa. With iron, I am good for 1 moa in good light with a center mass hold, and slightly better with a 6...

Mc Cormick trigger on DPMS .308

Installed a CMC single stage trigger on this rifle today. Won't get to range test it until the weather lets up, but am impressed so far. Installation is easy, let-off is clean and consistent, between 3 and 3.5 lbs. (I use weights, so can't narrow it down). I had installed one earlier this year...

    DPMS .308 at the range

No sweat Step. If it wasn't fun, I'd find some other way to spend what's left of my time and money. Switching from a sub minute M1A (shot it in matches through the 80's and 90's, including Perry twice) to an awkward looking and feeling AR platform ain't easy for an old guy. Good shooting, Tom

    DPMS .308 at the range

Birddog, 6xc, et al, thanks. I did pay less than $850 for it, it isn't a parts gun (yet), but it got me into the evil .308 black gun game. I will use it mostly on hogs. My technique is to hose them down. Hit some, kill some, kill rocks, cedar trees, etc also, but hogs remember longer when you...

    DPMS .308 at the range

You're right, birddog, I knew it was their entry level rifle when I got it. I forget which gunwriter said it, but "only accurate rifles are interesting", so will make improvements as the budget permits. The first one was an A2 stock, then a Burris P.E.P.R. mount that I got on this site. A very...

    DPMS .308 at the range

Jeremyp, I believe it's an Oracle. I didn't expect much from it, and the price was right. I can afford the Lilja barrel and a good trigger and still be at $1500. I don't think I could buy separate pcs and put them together for less. Pat, 10-4 on the trigger. G.I. M852 N/M ammo is good ammo...

    DPMS .308 at the range

Finally shot the rifle. (18" factory cr/moly barrel). Not impressed, but only tried M-852 ammo. It may want something else. 1.5 moa @ 100 yds. Got the scope too low, A2 stock bangs my cheekbone, terrible trigger, hellacious cycling noises. When the budget can stand it, I will put a good...

From the picture, I don't recognize any of the parts as Garand or M-14. Tom

    Criterion 308 AR barrels

Dan Lilja makes a .308 and a .260 Rem barrel for the DPMS upper. When I recover from Tulsa, I'm going to try one, probably a .308. Tom

Got the AK itch, looking for some advice.

I never expected any real accuracy from it, but several yrs ago, had a $250 WASR-10 that surprised me. I shot up a couple of the Chinese 550 rd tuna cans of corrosive copper washed ammo. Would shoot 2 moa at 100 yds all day with no failures to cycle. The rifle was cobby, but all the working...

Cheek Riser for a fixed stock

I pulled a Beartooth comb raiser onto an A-2 stock. Cut a small slit near the toe and R & R'd the rear sling swivel through the slit. Holds the comb raiser in place pretty well. I had placed the stackable pads under it so that the CH just clears across the top of it. Not perfect, but a good fix...

    Chip McCormick trigger

I had been told that the hammers for the .308's were longer, so discounted any trigger that didn't specifically say it was for the .308's. Interchangeability opens the field. For myself, I'm used to 2 stage triggers, but will stay with a single stage for the Oracle. Probably another CMC...

    Chip McCormick trigger

RK, Looks like I'm going to have to go to another trigger for the DPMS Oracle. After I read your reply, went to Brownell's. The CMC is not available for the 7.62 rifle. Neither is the Wilson. My 1st 2 choices for his AR were the Wilson and the CMC. The price was the tie-breaker. Any...

    Chip McCormick trigger

Ord, I pay attention to experienced comments, but believe we are looking at the same thing from a different perspective. I used to shoot Service Rifle competition, first with a Garand then an M-1A. To shoot in a registered or leg match, both rifles were required to lift a 4.5 lb trigger weight...

    Chip McCormick trigger

Just installed one in a Colt AR-15. No sweat. Take the upper off, pull the hammer and trigger pins and take out the safety selector. Modular trigger fits perfectly in the Colt (.154" pins) Furnished pins have a small head on one end, and c-clips on the outside of the receiver on the other end...
