I haven't found a Black Hills round that works for me. I tried their 77gr match and their 69 gr match and, while both were sub MOA, neither got me excited. The best factory load I could find was the Federal Gold Medal match 69gr SMK load. It consistently shoots 1/4 MOA and I haven't looked back.
Cool, I'm glad you got a good one. Like I said, they make a gazillion ARs so I'm sure some of them are OK. It's just the probability of getting a turd is much higher with DPMS than with other makers. Heck, maybe they take more time on their long range guns or they source a better barrel maker...
Good or bad individual experiences aside, DPMS is a bottom feeder in the AR15 world. They make a product with some of the worst quality control out there. Parts that are out of spec and would be discarded by companies like Colt and BCM are used by DPMS. Now does this mean all DPMS rifles...
I've had a number of rifles from Remington and Savage. Both companies have good reputations for making accurate rifles. Remington has a better fit and finish and a more refined action, it's smoother and, to me, seems better. Savage is spartan but considerably less expensive if you shop...
Budget is realistically about 1K$. But if I go that high on the rifle I'll have to wait to put glass on it. I'd like to be under $800, that's one reason why the Savage caught my eye, it's the right price. Then I'd have some cash for the SWFA scope too.
I sold an accurate gun once and I kick myself every time I think about it. I learned then to never sell a gun I love. New projects are fun but you'll always miss your old favorites. The new gun looks great. Any range reports?
My BDL is in .308. I thought about modding my BDL because I do have other options for hunting, but it has some sentimental value to it. I've killed a bunch of whitetails with it and I think I want to hand it down to one of my sons as a hunting rifle. Maybe I'll just upgrade the glass and my...
This is Northland Shooters Supply, correct? I have been reloading for more than a decade for my hunting rifles so that part is no problem. I have a Savage package deal rifle in .223 and I absolutely HATE the cheapo magazine it came with. One reason why I was interested in the Model 10...
Hi all. I'm new to long distance shooting and have been using a standard sporter weight hunting rifle to get started. I'm ready to up my game but I'm on a pretty tight budget. I'm a lefty so my choices are limited a bit off the shelf (a custom rifle isn't financially possible right now)...
