Lots of good advice, but I'll throw in my $0.02.. Agree with the "rent one and shoot it" crowd. Good idea if only to understand recoil and manage expectations. Agree with the "hammer less revolvers are easiest to use" folks, but may not be the easiest to handle recoil and you lose on capacity...- BuzzinSATX

Any love for the 7mm Rem Mag?
Any love for the 7mm Rem Mag? I have an old'ish Winchester M70 Westerner (late 70's) that shoots great. Bone stock with an old Bushnell 4x12 scope (also late 70's model) that still rings a 6" plate at 300 yards every time with cheap factory PPU ammo, either 139 or 174 grain...matters not...- BuzzinSATX

Which Midway Range Bag
I too have both and they've served me well for several years. The compact is quite large and the large is huge. your call, but the quality, per my experience, is very good. I also have their pistol and rifle cases and they too are very nice for the money.- BuzzinSATX
