    Federal brass...annealing?

Just wanted to say "thanks" for suggestions about removing the expander ball & running the die down a bit more. Those allowed me to squeeze the necks of the Federals enough to seat the bullet correctly. I'll tell you more when i'm on my reg computer, and don' t have to use this ipad keyboard.

    Federal brass...annealing?

I'm using the Lee Pacesetter die set: Lee Pacesetter 3-Die Set 243 Winchester I'm not any kind of expert at this, but from what I understand, when you do the deprime/size operation, the expander ball enters the mouth first, then the neck of the case gets "squeezed" into shape by the upper part...

    Federal brass...annealing?

I've seen the posts about Federal rifle brass primer pockets opening up too much and being too loose after being reloaded several times, but I've not seen anything about the necks opening up as well... I've got some fired Federal .243 brass that I've reloaded twice without a problem, but...

Washington state monthly matches at Upper Nisqually Sportsman's Club

Just wanted to say "Thanks" for everyone being so helpful in assisting this "newbie" during my first match (and long distance shooting generally). I had a great time, and I know some of the things I need to do to have more "impacts" the next time. Kevin, apologize to your wife for the poor...

Well, I don't know if I need help with a dope chart as much as I need help with my LUCK...I took the rifle out to the range this past weekend to get in some more practice, and after about 4 shots, my Bushnell Banner scope died: I can't move the turrets at all, and I can hear something "clinking"...

Washington state monthly matches at Upper Nisqually Sportsman's Club

Thanks for the info! Considering I've not shot out to more than 100 yds for the last 30 years, this should be interesting...a real fun learning experience.

Nine, Thanks, that really helps. So "heads & halves" = approx life size human head shapes and half size human head shapes...interesting! And, I figure (from the hits shown in the pic) that the "no shoot" heads are the white, correct?

Washington state monthly matches at Upper Nisqually Sportsman's Club

As someone who'll be shooting my first match in October, I'm trying to get as much info as possible to prepare properly for this, so I've been making "scale size" targets from the info given in post #475, and checking to see if I'll actually be able to see them with my inexpensive scope. The...

Well, i just ordered (online) several different brands of (inexpensive) ammo for the.243, so i'll see if i can get some practice in with that rifle between now and Oct 4. I may be able to get out to the kenmore range (100 yd) next Friday, if the ammo gets here in time.

New guy here... bounced over from reading some of the posts from the Puget Sound Area group. I'd love to sign up for the October match, but I have some questions... I've just purchase a Savage Axis in .243, and I've put a Bushnell 3-9 scope on it, but I've only got about a dozen rounds thru it...

Known, I checked the UNC calendar for October (probably the first time I'd be able to get out there)...are those matches called the "Practical Rifle Match", like the one on Saturday, Oct. 4? Or are they listed as something else? rick3

Rifle Scopes macular degen and scopes?

Greg, Sorry...I replied yesterday, but the forum system must have "misplaced" my reply. Basically, I was saying "thanks" for the info. I had known about exit pupil, but had not known how it related to MD. From your post, I got curious about what my "junk scopes" have for exit pupil, then also...

Rifle Scopes macular degen and scopes?

Greg, Thanks for the info. I'm familiar with the "exit pupil" measurement that's given in scope specs, but I didn't know it would have a relationship to MD. That relationsip between image quality and exit pupil is good to know. (Funny aside: as I was reading your response, my eyes totally...

Rifle Scopes macular degen and scopes?

I've got macular degeneration that is gradually taking my vision away, but I love shooting. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to shoot, but I want to stretch it out as much as possible, so I've been putting scopes on every gun I own (including pistols). I've got some "junk" scopes on...

Hey all, "long time listener, first time caller" here... I wish I had known about this thread several years ago. I've only read about the first 20 pages so far, but it sounds like there were fun times! I've been shooting short distances (50 - 150 yds) since I was a teenager (I'm 63 now) in...
