    22lr Ammo Wax Coatings

    Does anyone know the reason why some 22lr ammo comes with a waxy coating on the case itself. For example SK standard Plus is very waxy, while some others like the Norma Tac-22 (I think) are not. What purpose does this serve other than to make a mess?
