    If you can afford to send away to have some custom work then great. I do not think it is needed unless you have seen damaged shells that would show a head space issue i doubt this is an issue. Do you have any fired cases you can show us?

    To find the best info on tuning this rifle go to rimfirecentral.com they have a savage tacky for issues like this I have tuned my savage 93 BVTS in .17HMR I polished the bearing surfaces on myfire pin and many other areas to work on makes it smooth as well.

I wish they were better made but mine shots .308 shell caseings at 100 yards all day long so I am happpy with mine it can shot. Now try to find ammo around here is tough...

    I have a stainless savage 93BVTS mark II in .17HMR and my bolt is and was like this when new before being fired as well. I have shot several hundred rounds through it regardless and have never had an issue and mine is worse than yours.

    17 hmr ammo

    Lucky you I haven't seen a box in over 3 months not alone cases. There is rarely anything on the shelf at my local stops anymore. It is F.U.B.A.R. for ammo in my O.Z.. I reload for my centerfires but cannot do this in rimfire. Dang what happened to this site I haven't been back in years and now...
