I am looking at replacing the stock on my old Ruger American Predator with one of their new AI-magazine stocks. If anyone has an OEM takeoff that they’re looking to sell, please PM me.
RL-26 is probably too slow, especially for your barrel length. RL-23 or H4831(sc) are still the best choices. You can also use RL-16 or H4350 and get great velocities, but your load density would be low.
Another military load in case someone is interested. This one was capable of MOA accuracy with iron sights in two Swedish Mausers (M96 and M38). Lapua Brass CCI #200 Primer Alliant RL-23, 46.2 gr Hornady 140gr BTHP Seat to 2.600" base-to-datum with Hornady comparator (~10-15 thousandths off...
I just completed some load development for the Swedish Mauser and thought I'd share my results. This load shot well in a '43 Husqvarna M96 long rifle (29' barrel) and in a '41 Husqvarna M38 short rifle (24' barrel). Lapua Brass CCI #200 Primer Alliant RL-17, 42.1gr (warm load) Hornady 140gr...
100 fps gain for a 60°F increase seems a bit high for H-4350. It's supposed to be one of the less temperature-sensitive powders. http://precisionrifleblog.com/2016/06/19/powder-temp-stability-hodgdon-extreme-vs-imr-enduron/
I believe I fixed the issue. It seemed like a QC issue where the case mouth was a bit thicker than the rest of the neck. I used a 0.261" mandrel to uniform the neck and use a chamfer/deburr tool to trim off the excess. Took 2 firings to get it uniformed.
4064 and Varget burn a bit too fast for 6.5 Creedmoor. You will overpressure the case before you get your velocity to where you want to be. You might have some luck with lighter bullets, but certainly not for 140's. As a general rule: the smaller the caliber, heavier the bullet, and larger the...
I also have a factory Tikka CTR 24” 6.5CM. Brand new gun with only 230 rounds through it. My load is with Lapua brass, 140 ELDs, and CCI #400 small primers. I tried H-4350 and RL-17, and I was getting pretty low velocities too compared to what others are getting. With H-4350, 41.5 grains gave...
I am using Redding Competition Dies with a 0.290" bushing to reload Lapua 6.5 CM brass. My loaded rounds measure 0.292-0.293" on the outside of the neck, so the 0.290" bushing should be fine. This worked fine for the first two reloads. On the third, I noticed a lot of neck tension and copper...
Mine's a 1967 "sneak". I believe Sako made those. I was going to try the Hornady 174 FMJ next. The cannelure is located pretty far forward on those right?
I have a Hornady OAL gauge, but I don't have a modified 54R case to use with it. I did try to push the bullet back by jamming it into a case, and it ended up at around 2.330". I seated a few bullets to 2.310" and I still get scrape marks.
I've been trying to work up a handload for my Finnish M39 Mosin Nagant, and I am struggling to make sense of why my bullets keep touching the lands. I took a factory PPU round and measured the base-to-datum at 2.437" (with a Hornady bullet comparator). The PPU load uses a 0.310" diameter...
I got my MDT magazine in today (without the binder plate). The rounds will get stuck under the feed ramp, but they don't get stuck on the way into the chamber. They get stuck when the round is moving up into feeding position. It looks like the follower is tilting and the bullet is nosing down...
Thanks, I think I'll first try with the MDT metal magazine without the binder plate and see if that works for me. I asked MDT and they always include a disclaimer saying that you might need to grind off part of the feed ramp so the bullet tips don't snag.
Has anybody tried an AICS short action magazine without a binder plate? Were there any issues with rounds getting stuck under the feed ramp? I seat my bullets pretty far out and could use the extra space in the magazine for COAL.
I did a ladder with RL-17 and found a similar node around 41.6 grains. All groups were 0.5-0.6 moa at 100 yards, which doesn't really tell much at such a short distance. My velocities are a bit lower than yours though. All 10-shot groups. Hornady 140gr ELD Lapua brass CCI #400 24" barrel 41...
Quick question for Tikka users. Have any of you experienced slam-fires after adjusting the trigger? On my T3X CTR, it is possible to adjust the trigger weight low enough to where the gun will slam-fire when the bolt is closed or smacked hard enough, and that's with the factory spring in place...
What does a sonic crack sound like when the bullet is barely supersonic? I tested my through a can today, and I noticed that there was a "whisper" that lingered for about 1-2 seconds after the report. It's not loud, but it is definitely distinct and it occurred pretty consistently past 10.8gr...
