Light weight bolt carriers effect on felt recoil

I've built a few reciprocating systems around UL'd BCGs. Typically, use them for precision-focused builds with rifle-length (or rifle+) gas systems and I have appreciated the results. Keep in mind: The reciprocating system needs to be considered as a whole, from buffer spring weight to...

    Gas gun problem

The typical answer is to tune an adjustable to bolt locking open... and add a click or three for 'reliability'.

    custom build shooting large groups

If you are not already familiar with Litz's (Applied Ballistics) TOP Gun model, buy his book (vol. 3 chapter 3) or subscribe ($9.99) to his podcast and listen to the episode where he discusses specific characteristics of a rifle design and projectile combination as a predictor of accuracy. If...

    223 55grain bullet suggestions

@Dildobaggins There are lots of reasons that you may have experienced better accuracy from your 55s at 100 yards. I have found 52-55 grain projectiles on top of H335 to be very forgiving both in reloading and with my technique (easy pressure curves, gentle preflight recoil). I've used...

Can anyone convert a hogan/pof large frame lower to DPMS sized pins?

Do the Hogan lowers have undersized pins? I'm tooled to do .250" pin holes for part of the process I use when I'm fitting uppers to lowers. Are you looking to do a matched upper and lower combination, or make your lower 'universal'? The process I use to mate uppers and lowers results in the...

DMR 5.56 build, Finally finished it

Clean build. Nice choice in the coating. I wish I had the discipline to do a monochromatic build. I always end up laying up 600 stencils and spraying six colors, even when the plan was to do what you did. I have built on MBTs and G triggers. There is nothing wrong with the MBT and they...

    Wylde chambering

You should pull up a print of the specs on the Wylde chamber. You haven't included any of the chamber differences in your fancy drawing. That said... there's no accuracy problems provided all the rest of the chambering was done reasonably well...

    Ar15 failure to lock back/feed

18 clicks is the number. I used to build with BA. I don't touch them anymore. QC is trash. I have a stack of barrels I need to send back for crap bores and shitty ports. Maybe they send out the good shit to SOLGW?

    Ar15 failure to lock back/feed

Did you open the adjustment "fully"? IIRC, 4.5 rotations from the adjustment screw full seated (the shortest it can be) is fully open. This is about 1/2 of the total travel of the adjustment screw. Anything beyond that allows gas to bleed from the block... for whatever reasons you'd want that.

    Ballistic Advantage barrels

In my experience, BAs are more miss than hit. I ordered the last batch during the scarcity of parts a while back. Maybe QC was having a bad day, or the demand was causing rushing, but the machining on the bores was pretty miserable. The only barrel of 8 that I built on was consistently around...

Reloading for AR-10 308 Win. Which one is your choice: Single Stage or Progressive Press?

I load single stage, using a lot of stick powders. Mostly 168ish. I have found 308 to be pretty forgiving in load development and would feel pretty comfortable loading on a progressive if the powder metered reasonably well. I've definitely run a lot of very adequate ammo on progressives.

Facing an AR receiver. Does it matter?

FWIW, I usually find that IMI 77 has a flier or two per box of 20. Shot my lot before attempting to diagnose it. (Concentricity maybe?) Would buy by the case again, if it ever shows up through my regular vendors. (By flier, I mean unexpected POI compared to whatever I see through the glass...

Upper Receiver Handguard Anti Rotation Pin Hole - Worth it?

Nice to have. Provides confidence that there isn't drift with secondary aiming devices attached to the forend... I've definitely had issues in the past with handguards moving on me over time. Lessons were learned. Now, I try and find something to keep forend indexed.

22 Creedmoor gas gun trials and tribulations

People sometimes conflate "dwell time" with "bolt lock time"... Post clearly referenced 'overbore'... so was referring to the timing as it related to pressure dropping (lock time).

    Angled gas ports?

I have a few barrels made by MicroMOA from the later 20-teens (2016?). IIRC, all of them have angled gas ports (angled such that they penetrate the bore farther to the muzzle). All of the builds have atypical BCG/buffer masses and springs. I think they were on very good blanks from...

    Are My Expectations Too High?

How accurate? Over how many different loads? Shot in field conditions? Stoner designed a system that can be used for high standards of precision with great success. I suspect maximum precision was not his design intent. There are lots of reasons a guy might want slop in a gun...

    Are My Expectations Too High?

Upper an lower fitment are extremely relevant for precision. The gun and shooter move collectively before the projectile is in free flight. Repeatable precision demands that they move in a repeatable way. Sloppy receiver fitment is not conducive to repeatability. But this is an issue in...

    V seven Rifles?

My position is that receiver fitment is a critical component of AR platform accuracy potential (consistency). I've never bought a DHD set, but it looks like they'll ship a matched set if you an upper and lower simultaneously. If V7 QC applies to DHD (every V7 set I've handled has been...
