Site updates coming next Wednesday at 8am CT!
The site will be down for routine maintenance on Wednesday 6/5 starting at 8am CT. If you have any questions, please PM alexj-12!
No problem! If the reported pitfalls of vertical split rings don’t sit well with you, I’ve heard nothing but good stuff about the Aadmount (20 MOA cantilevered with integrated illuminated bubble level, available in 35mm), and Leupold will soon have a 35mm version of the Mark 6 IMS. There could...
I’m using a 20 MOA LaRue LT745 in 35mm on a 308 AR and 2 5.56 ARs with that scope and have no issues (so far) holding zero, binding, or returning to zero. It has a pretty long cantilever and wide enough ring spacing that you can get a level adjacent to the turret housing between the rings if...
I would chalk it up at least partially to sample variance, I think. I probably have a particularly good example of Gen 1 XRS, but keep in mind that I was comparing the scopes at 18x. When I crank the XRS up to 30, CA is very pronounced and the image darkens considerably and loses contrast (the...
Great write up! I think any time you compare ED glass (ATACR) with non ED (Mark 5) you’re going to find the non ED slightly lacking in comparison, particularly in regards to CA but also in color/contrast, but it sounds like the glass and optical formula here keep the difference minimal and...
Did they change the rebate eligibility? I swear last time I looked Elite Tactical wasn’t excluded. I see now that it is (but the fine print at the bottom of the rebate form still doesn’t mention the ET line). EDIT: just saw TheMammoth’s post, so I guess I’m not crazy after all, hahaha. I’m not...
It’s the original... I haven’t had an opportunity to look through the II. Although with the 30% Bushnell rebate going on right now, if I hadn’t just bought the Mark 5, I’d probably find an excuse to pick one up! But yeah, the original is a solid scope for sure, it’s just big and heavy, and I...
I’m not saying the XRS has no CA; it does have a bit centered up, and a lot if I’m not right in the middle of the eyebox. But the 3.6-18 has a little bit more in the center than the XRS does in the center. From what I remember of my Gen 1 DMR, it was optically worse than both. I can see bullet...
I spent some time this afternoon exhaustively comparing the Mark 5 3.6-18x44 and my Bushnell XRS (at 18x), and I need to revise my initial assessment. The XRS has better glass. Resolution and clarity are about the same, as is brightness. When I said the XRS wasn’t all clear at once and had bad...
Each elevation click is .099 mils instead of .100 mils. It is also possible that my “test fixture” isn’t as secure as I hoped, and the error I’m seeing is the result of vibrations from the clicking gradually moving the rifle. I can actually see some pretty gross movements while I turn the turret...
I did some shooting with it yesterday and today, plus I tested the tracking on a precisely drawn tall target with the rifle secured, so time for probably the last update! Yesterday around sunset I put the 3.6-18x44 Mark 5 on my 16” suppressed AR15 to do some preliminary sighting in to get it...
Thanks, and no problem! Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention: I weighed the scope on a pretty accurate digital scale. Leupold says 26 oz, but I got 25 3/8. With the caps and the 3” sunshade, it’s 28. Considering the Bushnell DMR weighs like 35 oz (according to a Hide member who weighed one on...
Yes indeed. Like I said, I can induce it if I move around the eyebox a lot, but centered up, I can’t see any. I couldn’t get it to completely go away with the camera, though. That picture was the best one; all the other ones had horrible purple and yellow mess all over them, hahaha. Trying to do...
Well, I promised pics, so here are a few. Turns out it’s really difficult to get a good picture through this without a PhoneSkope. First, though, in no way do these pictures represent the clarity of the glass. The resolution is fantastic, and I can see (sharply) blades of grass and the twigs at...
My 3.6-18x44 showed up just before it got dark (of course), plus UPS decided to take my 35mm rings on the scenic route from TX to WY by way of Memphis (shipped Ground, of course), so they’ll be here tomorrow evening (4 days late). I’ll see if I can “mount” it in a vise with a rag tomorrow...
Well, looks like I overpaid by $111 bucks! Someone needs to jump on that, I’m not sure there’s a cheaper way to get into a new scope with a Tremor 3 if you want one. Hell, it’s less than $100 more than an HDMR 2 that weighs 8 oz more and doesn’t offer a Tremor.
Yeah, the T3 should be pretty close all the way down once you figure out your wind dot value for your load and atmosphere, especially considering it’s meant for speed shooting, and any error is going to get lost in the noise of your ability to make an accurate wind call quickly down to 1-2 mph...
Well, I got too excited and had to place an order for a 3.6-18x44 Tremor 3 to take advantage of a President’s Day sale. Could be here as soon as Friday, but probably next week. I’ll post reticle shots and detailed impressions when it shows up.
Up to 25-30mph crosswinds with an 18” .308... Wyoming doesn’t mess around! The SKMR3 definitely has more than the G2, but not quite enough for my local conditions. If I waited for the winds to drop to 15mph or less, I’d only get to shoot maybe once every 2-3 weeks in the winter and spring.
