The above is true most of the time, but you need to make sure as there are large shanks on some modles with "smaller" calibers (223 for instance).
ETA: To be clear, most 223 Savage barrels are small shank, but Savage also makes them in Large shank.
Re: Anyone make a 45acp or 9mm Rifle Bolt Action?
There was a thread on one of the gun boards a few years ago by a guy who built a 45ACP bolt gun with a Savage action. He described his build and it looked pretty cool.

Re: Slight Modifications for my Son - Savage 110
First, great rifle. I love the story. I have to ask, why are you having it built? Have you looked into how easy a Savage is to build? It only takes a couple of inexpensive tools.
Again, I love it.

Re: My "All American Rifle"
Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I was asked for a pic of the left side of the stock, here it is.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm a sucker for wood and metal. I'm a big fan of the original M40 "look". I'm also a fan of 30-06 as I think it's an underrated chambering with a lot of potential. Sure, it's not the most effecient but with handloads you can really make it scream...
Re: Polishing a turd?
I'm a sucker for old accurate rifles. I'd put a nice adjustable buttplate on it and leave it as is. I bet with some handloads it'll be quite the shooter. If he wants to paint it, get a different stock for it or sell it to someone who will keep it the way it is to fund...
Re: Is it a Krieger or Douglas
If you look through the action of the rifle you may be able to see the factory markings on the barrel around the chamber. They are not always machined off. If you've got markings, check the for sale section here of pictures of blanks for sale, the seller...
