brass turned pink/red after cleaning next to a bore brush

Thanks for replying! I used Hornady Lock-n-Loader Sonic Gun Brass Cleaner solution. Could you please explain more about the copper wash part? I just noticed a very important detail, the center bar (presumably made of steel) of the bronze brush became completely black (it was shiny before). So...

brass turned pink/red after cleaning next to a bore brush

I cleaned my Norma 300 win mag brass in the Hornady sonic cleaner with Hornady brass cleaner solution. I also put my bronze bore brush in the sonic cleaner to clean it together with the brass. After 2 or 3 hours of cleaning (I did let the sonic cleaner rest every 30 minutes), a few brass that...

    Oven heat brass and annealing

After testing the oven baked cases with a pair of pliers, they do seem to be softer than the cases that haven't been baked... So I ended up discarding these baked cases for extra safety.... I thank everyone again!

reduced powder for 300 win mag

That's a very good explanation, thanks a lot! Let me rephrase just to make sure I get it: As the powder is burning, the bullet is also traveling inside the barrel. The burning of the powder increases the pressure while the traveling of the bullet decreases the pressure so these two effects...

reduced powder for 300 win mag

Question: can I load 300 win mag near the minimum loads? For example, for the Hornady 225 eld match and H 4831 SC powder, the Hornady loading data gives 60.4 gn-70.4 gn. Is the lower bound practically viable? Or is it only for very special setup? In the Hornady reloading book, there's an...

Thanks for your opinion! It's good to know that I could keep the brass and my face at the same time!

    Oven heat brass and annealing

I definitely think safety should be of primary concerns, on the other hand, I've spent quite some time cleaning the brass. So I would be a bit upset if I have to throw them away...

Thanks for the kind consideration! that sounds a bit scary... is there known cases where soft brass lead to explosions of the firearms?

    Oven heat brass and annealing

Hi thank you for the input, what do you mean by "just coming off"? Did you mean the color came off after rubbing?

    Oven heat brass and annealing

Thanks for replying pell1203. Yes I'm sure I put my pot near the heating element. Indeed after finding these rainbow-colored marks I google searched the images of heating elements for baking ovens and then I realized that the M shaped metal coil which I thought was the oven rack was actually the...

    Oven heat brass and annealing

Although I would say the rainbow like color is a sign of annealing, please do a google image search "annealed brass case"

    Oven heat brass and annealing

So that's not over-annealed but tarnish? If it's only tarnished then it should be good for shooting right?

Thanks for the tip! Do you think the brass shown above is over-annealed or is it still good?

    Oven heat brass and annealing

Will definitely do that next time. Do you think the case shown above is still usable?

    Oven heat brass and annealing

First of all thank you for replying sir! Although my oven was set to be 350 F, I was stupid enough to put the pot that contains the brass so close to the heating element so I don't know how hot the brass actually got...... Before trying to rubbing the rainbow like color off, one of the cases...

    Oven heat brass and annealing

I was trying to dry my brass by heating them in an oven at 350 Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. After that the some of the cases have this rainbow-like color on them. Is this a sign of annealing? Could this be dangerous because the cases are too soft? I don't think I'll oven dry my cases again, but...
