I'm trying to. I only have one mill running at the moment and it always seems to have something else to make. I just picked another one which I need to get up and running, hopefully it won't be too far away.
No problem (y) I haven't had much to do with smaller lathes, I've got an old Colchester Master and it does pretty much anything I need to do. For the time it would take someone to do it for you it's probably about a 6-pack and you could drink half. The best improvement to the trimmer is the...
No problem, from memory it's a quick lathe job to remove the taper on the inside of the case holder to allow the ugly pilots to slide in, I think I took a little off the OD threaded end as well so the case mouth sits close enough to the trimmer blade, the flange on the pilot moves the case a bit...
The more I shoot this rifle, the more I like it. 32.5 mils elevation to 500m with Center-X. It was averaging 7/10 hits on the 500 x 750mm plate at 500m. The hit indicator was lucky to survive :)
Yep, nothing really changed apart from the group size. I would have spent more time playing with it but it's plenty good enough to ding steel. I might shoot some F-class matches with it next year and spend some time getting it really dialled in. The tuner made a lot more difference on the...
1:7 seems to do the job fine with no real downside. I just made a dummy round as long as I could squeeze into a magazine and the throat is reamed to suit. I'm not sure of what the actual freebore measurement is though. Thats an 80 and 88 ELD-M in the photo below just off the lands. I had to...
A lot of the time ackleys are chambered what is probably .002" or so short so the neck/shoulder junction jams slightly in the chamber to hold the base of the case against the bolt face so they fire form properly. Mine could do with a skim off the bottom of the die as well, it bumps the shoulder...
Yeah it's an amazing little cartridge. There seems to be more and more of them showing up at matches, the performance vs cost to load/barrel life and lack of any recoil make it a no-brainer. These cases have lasted longer than the last barrel and I've only lost a couple with loose pockets, half...
I'm using the 88 ELD-M's in my 26" 1:7 twist 223 AI with Reloader 15, ADI brass and CCI BR4 primers. RL15 seems to bridge the gap between 2206H and 2208 and provide pretty decent velocity, it's just difficult to come by here. The case is pretty much full but it doesn't crunch anything seating...
I got mine to balance really well in an x-ray but it took a lot of weight. I added the aluminium forend, tuner, made a longer spigot and added a long chunk of brass inside the forend. The Razor is heavy as well so didn't hurt it. I've sold it since and now have a vudoo with another x-ray but a...
I machined up an extension for mine to give room for the tuner to poke out past the spigot on the chassis. I machined a thread so the tuner threaded directly onto it which made it a bit tidier.
I've run a few different rifles now, I started with a Lithgow LA101 which is a brilliant little rifle and amazingly accurate. I did a lot of work to set it up for 22 PRS shooting, made a backbone and trigger guard to fit Bravo skins and it did the job well, it was just very hard to get well...
