What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Ahh, I see lol. I was sitting here reading your post and thinking, "Man, I really feel like that's what I said." But I was starting to second guess myself and I read your post about 15 times trying to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Glad we got that cleared up! Lol

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Perhaps my post is not written clearly enough. The way I read them, my post and your post agree with each other. I believe where the confusion lies is in my last sentence, where what I meant is that, mathematically and in practice, flutes do not make a barrel stronger (when compared to an...

    Gun mount for tripod head?

I went with the Pig Saddle as well as their tripod. Absolutely no regrets with either.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns EDC Loadout

Ha I know, I know. I'll try to take one some time tomorrow. I've always meant to take one anyway just for such occasions.

    Sidearms & Scatterguns EDC Loadout

Cell phone, 1911 Gov't in Milt Sparks SS2, Zero Tolerance 0300, Copenhagen, wallet, and keys. Often a G2 pen as well. I'm considering carrying another magazine but I don't have room in my pockets and I don't want anything else on my belt. Perhaps I'll take an artful picture some time like...

"It is impossible for a .308 to cycle with a suppressor, you have to load them one at a time."

    Pelican Vault Cases

They say it's more affordable which makes me feel like it isn't as secure as a 1750. I have no experience with the storm series, but I do like the latches, which I believe it said were on the Vault series.

I know nothing about these I just saw they were new so I thought I'd put it on here for a topic of discussion. http://www.pelican.com/us/en/product/cases/vault/v770

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

I agree with what you're saying when it comes to comparing a fluted barrel with an unfluted one of equal mass and cross-sectional area, but with the unfluted barrel having smaller diameter. With two barrels of equal diameter, one with flutes and one without, the one without flutes is always...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

    1. I-beams are only most effective in one directional bending stress. Any compression or tension (as you mentioned) is handled far better in a solid beam. The same is true for torsional stress, and any bending stresses in any direction other than the I-beam is oriented. I will agree that I-beams...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

So I did a quick calculation on excel, using only the cross-sectional area of the muzzle, which should be accurate enough for using solely as a comparison since the MTU is always bigger at any given point (after taper begins). What I found is the C-SA of the muzzle on an MTU with flutes is...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

Based on Bartlein's website, MTU: Diameter at Shank is 1.25, and tapers to 0.93 at muzzle. Med Palma: Starts at 1.25, tapers sharply to 0.9, and then gradually to 0.82. I could figure this on Solidworks but I don't have the software license right now. My guess is the MTU with flutes would be...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

This is what I am telling you and any engineer knows this as well. The only time an I-beam is stronger than a solid beam is when it has greater dimensions. However, I-beams are far more cost effective, and sufficiently strong for their purposes. I-beams are used because they make a more...

What's the most stupid thing you've been told?

No, sir. Fake news. Not the same principle. Buildings, airplanes, and bridges do not have material removed from their structural support. Their frames consist of already-made beams that are designed for their strength. No building, airplane, or bridge is first made solid and then carved out to...

Tell me something about steel targets

Okay I get it now. When I first read what Mooncake wrote about firehose or conveyer belt I was wildly confused for some reason. Needed more sleep I guess. I appreciate the help, I'm excited to try some of those suggestions. I might even have an old grader or dozer blade laying around somewhere.

Tell me something about steel targets

I'm not sure I understand having a single point attachment. I understand how it would work better, but how do you keep it straight after hitting it? I'll watch that video tomorrow as I have terrible internet service here and cannot load it.

Thanks, I'll try that. We have plenty of scrap steel laying around.

Tell me something about steel targets

I guess we'll need need to get an AR500 plate. Ours is the same, works great at 4-500, but at 800 it sounds the same as the hitting the rocks behind it. How big around is yours? We always try to watch for movement but our creedmoors just don't make it dance much. Maybe a lighter one would help...

Tell me something about steel targets

Me and my dad made some gong style steel targets to shoot at, but we have trouble knowing when we get hits or not. I realize there is a similar thread to this but my actual question is do you need to use hardened steel to get the ringing "gong" effect? We just made ours out of some 3/4in plate...
