Thank you for the ideas and for inspiring me by starting this thread. There were several things against me that created the final shape but I really like the flavor and texture. Tonight I made some homemade split pea soup and toasted cheese bread.

After a 5 year hiatus, I baked a loaf with the homemade sourdough. I think my dough had a little too much hydration so it spread out more when it was baking. The flavor is very good.

Nobody in this thread said their stuff doesn't break. I asked for examples of things that have broken, and have yet to hear any. The SR-15 is a solid platform but I wouldn't buy one at the current prices. Pre panic/recent wars, it was a lot of gun for the money.

Can you cite examples of the SR-15 breaking? There are 3rd party sources for their barrel wrench by the way.

As much as I like drills, etc, you can really turn a newbie off pretty quick if they don't have the desire. First thing I would do is work on target shooting, paper or steel. Maybe throw some melons or soda cans down range for some fun and reaction. Baby steps
