    Scoring on Brass

Here is a follow-up: I inked a spent case with a red sharpie and cycled it through the action. With careful observation I was able to locate the source of the scoring as can be seen in the attached photos. This is an Impact Precision 737R. I plan to dress the affected area with some 2000 grit...

    Scoring on Brass

After firing the first 40 rounds of factory Hornady ammo through a new barreled action I noticed some scoring on the cases. It is present on every case. Soliciting opinions on the significance and where to look for the problem. The rifle shot well, but I want to reload and am uncertain about...

    Hornady Ballistics Podcasts

There are several recent Hornady podcasts about ballistics that are worth watching on Youtube. Some myths are dispelled and observations explained. BTW, I am not associated with Hornady in any way except that I use some of their products as well as those from other manufacturers.

    6.5 PRC and RL-16?

Very useful info. I appreciate it. I have loaded RL-16 for 6.5 CM 130gr hybrids and for 6mm CM 105 hybrids and been very happy with the results, but will be getting a 6.5 PRC which is why I ask. I’ll probably shoot 140 ELD-M and 147’s. We’ll have to see. Anyone with a favorite 6.5PRC load who...

If you were only going to have one caliber?

6.5CM Has killed elk and mulie. Pretty sure ok for antelope. Caveat, elk less that 100 yds, mulie at 150. Just make a good shot.

Hunting & Fishing Funny Hunting Stories

Here comes another one. This happened to my son and grandson last weeken on an elk hunt in northern Arizona. As you may know, we got smacked with a half a year worth of rain and snow in a couple of days at Thanksgiving. The roads north were closed due to a foot + of snow, including I-17. My...

    Critique my 6.5 CM handloading process-UPDATE 9/30

With small samples you should expect your true ES to be about 4 times your SD with 5% of your shots falling outside that value.

    Primer pockets and seating... WTH!?!?

Your process sounds much like mine and I did not experience the trouble you describe. I gave up on Hornady brass though because I could only get 2 or 3 reloads before the primer pockets got too loose. I now use Lapua (srp) brass. Costs more but lasts longer. I use a Frankford Arsenal Platinum...

    Primer Seating Tool

The downside for me is that you have to handle each primer. My fingers aren’t that nimble anymore.

    Primer Seating Tool

I have the Frankford Arsenal Platinum priming tool, but the seating stem is not concentric with the primer pocket when the shell is placed in the shell holder. This means I have to fidget with shell positioning and I am not confident that primers are evenly seated. I don’t want to handle every...

Need help figuring out best way to work up a load for a brand new caliber in a brand new barrel

Yeah sometimes it takes more than 60. My most recent barrel speeded up until it got to 150. A chrono helps here, but honestly out to 300 you might not notice too much of a change. As @Ranger188 said, if something seems not right early on after you think you have your load, might need to retry...

Need help figuring out best way to work up a load for a brand new caliber in a brand new barrel

Start at the low end and work up to pressure... carefully. Examine each case after firing it before going to the next one up. Stop when you see any pressure signs. If you have doubts about recognizing pressure get an experienced reloader to go to the range with you.
