    Gunsmithing Rem 700 Replacement Bolt

If you get a one piece bolt from PTG or Mac Bros and are fitting it to a VIRGIN rem 700 action the bolt will need to be fit by removing material from the rear of the lugs on the bolt. Fit/timed correctly you will take advantage the fullest extraction you can get. I have fit a few of these over...

    Gunsmithing Rem 700 Replacement Bolt

After market bolt on a virgin action, wont happen. Material need to be removed off the lugs to get them to cam over and get the most amount of extraction. A stock rem 700 bolt fitting and headspacing is possible (I have had it work out before) but I wouldnt count on it.

Gunsmithing How do you remove a muzzle brake installed with red loctite from a carbon fiber barrel

I would stick it in my barrel vise, wrap the carbon at the end of the muzzle with a wet rag and heat the muzzle brake slowly. You'll see the material start to smoke some as it heats up. Most of the brakes either have flats for a wrench or a particulartool to remove them. Casey

Run the athlon with mil reticle also, cant beat it for the money. I also had to send mine back for the focus ring breaking, much better now and service was great. Had a leupold Gold ring with the the H32 reticle, it was great glass but could not get the reticle crisp for my eyes (no diopter...

Gunsmithing Viper barrel vise or bench vise with inserts??

Bought one of Marks at SAC, has worked very well. I bought quite a few of his inserts and also made my own for odd barrels (tikkas being one of them). Any good barrel vise with inserts is going to cost you $$ dont skimp and it will pay back when removing stubborn barrels. Casey

    Gunsmithing barreling timing

I have used my Hawk eye bore scope to look at many many chambers from others and on prefits. I have seen some that were down right fuckin ugly! Guess what, they shot lights outs. I can't tell you why, it goes against eveything we strive for in precision barrel chambering. Makes me wonder why I...

    Gunsmithing barreling timing

I time the high side of muzzle runout to 12. Does it help, not sure. It doesn't take that much extra time to do so and it makes me feel better. Casey

    Gunsmithing Out-of-round M700 bolthead...

If your talking about the .145-.150 nose portion ahead of the lugs then what Rubicon said, I always measure and take the biggest dimension and cut the counter bore dia off that. Casey

Gunsmithing Expert opinion wanted on New barrel freebore (pic)

I see that on a lot of prefits that come thru and also on some other shops that chamber and they all shoot extremely well. A borescope can be a very useful tool but you need to know what to pay attention too. I'd shoot it and see what the target says. Casey

Gunsmithing Opening up a Remington 223 bolt face or reducing a 308 to .224 Valkyrie size.

Maybe Mac Bros would help make a bolt for that?
