    Newbie - Remington 700SA w/Magpul Hunter stock

I build rifles for a living. I buy and fit stainless steel 1/4x28 Torx head screws with every rifle that I build. I also include a 1/4" deep socket with a Torx bit glued into in for the customers to use with their torque wrenches.

Gunsmithing Barrel screwed on action at an angle

I agree. The bolt raceway may be that far out of alignment with the OD of the action. That is why the action face, threads and lugs are trued to the bolt race. I would shoot it before doing any re machining. As side note, I wouldn't bet my life on the combination square as a Precision instrument.

$200.00 is a very reasonable price. We've been doing them for $250.00 but we re-blue the action afterwards.

Gunsmithing rebarreling an already trued action? ?

Gunsmithing rebarreling an already trued action? ?

Still opinion and not proven fact. I have three Rem actions 2 700 and 1 722. All have been used in IBS score shooting for over 25 years. Between these 3 rifles and 2 different shooters there have been 11 National Championship awards, 5 World records and numerous State championship awards. Not...

Gunsmithing rebarreling an already trued action? ?

"if the action was trued and the factory barrel screwed back on...then the action was not trued." This statement is a matter of opinion and not proven fact. Not all smiths overcut the action threads when trueing an action.

Gunsmithing Strange pin in the bolt head of my 700 Remington ? Two part question

That stamp of a heart does not indicate a Hart barrel. Remington used that as an inspectors mark for years. The barrel appears to be a 243 barrel that was re-bored to .358.

Gunsmithing Too much runout on action alignment rod

Lee, if you and your lathe are that good then you'll never have a need for a grinder. Somehow I expected your rifles to always "shoot itty bitty".

If you want something nearly round, turn it. If you want something perfectly round, grind it.

Bill Calfee, expert rimfire benchrest gunsmith did a series of articles, in the now defunct Precision Shooting magazine, that covered this extensively. You may be able to find the articles in the Archives of the IBS.
