Re: Rem 700 300 RUM Bottom Metal options? You might want to give Glen at Seekins Precision a call. His shop is in Lewiston 208-743-3400. His LA mags for the 338 Lapua are 3.9 inside length. The only modification needed to run the RUM cartriges are opening the feed lips slightly. They come in...
Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua? I ran OCW tests on two different 6.5x47s with 130 VLDs and Varget. One had the center of the node at 37.3 gr. 9 twist barrel, the other was 37.5 gr. in an 8 twist barrel. Jam them around .010 and don't look back. After looking at Bergers max! loads for several...
Re: Alberta wolf and whitetail Great White Holdings was the outfitter. I spent 24 days on stand in 2010 before I shot my deer, hunted the entire 30 day season in 2011 and didn't shoot a deer and hunted 12 days this season before I saw what I was looking for. 66 days total on stand over the...
Re: Alberta wolf and whitetail The deer weighed 327# live weight and the wolf 120#. The wolf chased a whitetail doe out of a spruce thicket and pulled her down in the snow. He had her by the throat when I shot him at 80 yds. The deer was shot at 90 yds. chasing a doe. He wasn't trying to kill...
Recently returned from my Alberta deer hunt. Had great weather, cold and plenty of snow. Shot the wolf on the 10th and the deer on the 12th. Deer scored 207 4/8".
Shot this big male this morning at 509 yds. 20+ mph wind, 3/4 value. Got lucky on the wind call, the Swarovski made the drop simple. Warm and windy made for poor deer movement, but this guy made it interesting.
Re: Peninsula Brown Bear No way could I carry the hide and skull in one piece. The hide with the feet skinned out down to and cut off at the knuckles weighed over 100 lbs. easily. 300 yds. between rests was about max. on the packing. Go 300 yds. drop your pack and then backtrack back to your...
Re: Peninsula Brown Brown I got to camp May 7th with snow everywhere and left on the 24th. There was still enough snow to land the Super Cub with skis.
Re: Peninsula Brown Brown Thanks WCD, no rubs, very nice hide. The hide squared 10' 1" and the skull went 28 5/16" B & C. I used a custom Sako in 338 RUM with 225 gr. Barnes TTSX. Shot him through both shoulders at 209 yds. DRT, never moved. The bullet was under the hide and weighed 224.28...
