We run several 24” ones here, and I wouldn’t build one shorter. As mentioned before, go 7SAUM if you want to go 20-22”. I run my 28s throated long with 180ELD-M in CIP mags, with a ton of RL33 behind it, and 24” is the bare minimum I’d consider with that much powder for bore size.
Older Proof barrels had a 1/2-28 threaded section like that, I got one in about 2014 that was identical. There is nothing wrong with the barrel. Somewhere along the way they changed to a 5/8” straight tennon left, I’d imagine the older threads were from the wrapping process. Cut that portion...
I built mine on a 308 bolt face short action, I just clip the LRMP module into the extractor before I close the bolt, it’s pretty quick and easy. You could make a little tool to do it, too. There is no ejector in the bolt, obviously. I thought it would be slow and tedious, but it’s very fast...
I built a .45 cal on a Remington 700 with a Bartlein barrel, 28”. Get all your components from Luke Horak at Arrowhead Rifles. I had Swinglock make a custom sizing die out of a drop of barrel, and am shooting Luke’s 310gr APBs at 2850 with a mild load of H322, could probably stretch to 3100ish...
I got the A&D/Auto Throw/Auto Trickler setup preordered as soon as I saw it. It was well worth the wait and price. I used to throw low on a Redding BR measure and pinch or trickle to +/-0.02gr. on a Sartorious. Now I just sit there and watch the setup run because it's so stinkin' cool. I was...
I have a 1-7 twist 22-250AI, haven't bothered shooting anything under 75gr. Barrel life is horrid, but a 90gr Berger at 3200fps will flip a squirrel about 25 feet under 200 yards. I like the VMax as much as the next guy, but I'd stick to them in 223 and reach out with the fast twist 22-250.
I've been playing around with a 22-250AI I built last year, and I am finally narrowing loads down to what I intended the build to be for. It's a 21" 1-7 #3 X-Caliber 5R barrel I chambered on a R700 in a Manners EH2. Shot in the .2s with the first H4350/75 A-Max fire forming load I came up with...
I use my mill with an endmill at about 3000 RPMs, bores a nice clean hole. A drill bit would be second best, but I'd probably opt for at least using a drill press over a hand drill.
Re: Loads fo Subsonics- All Cals While this sin't load specific, if you get a bullet stuck in the barrel and it won't come out easy (they almost never do), try a charged case with the can OFF. It has done the trick for me when I have tried it, just make sure not to spill any powder when...
