volquartsen superlite 17hmr anyone running one.

In 22WMR, I've had the Classic and the Superlite. In all honesty, I didn't really like the Superlite. It was well made, and a handy gun, but something about an aluminum receiver, when a steel could be had, turned me off. I don't think it'd beat itself to death, but I just felt more...

    scopes for 22lr

I'm not a match shooter, so I really like a low power scope. Most of the time, it's fixed power, but lately I've had a little love affair with 1.5-6X scopes, such as the Swaro or S&B. Often, they're dangerous game hunting scopes, and the reticles are wide, but they're fun for whacking crows or...

    Gunsmithing Engraved O/U receiver rust?

I think the tumbler is a bad idea. Also, are you sure it's a stainless part, and not that it's been nickeled?

    Gunsmithing Bench vice

It's hard to beat a Wilton Bullet Vise. Figure $100-150 for a good, used one on Craigslist, and you'll probably do well.

Gunsmithing Want to learn to use mill/lathe

It's going to be very, very hard to learn without hands on. Do you have a vocational school near you that you can take some classes at?

Gunsmithing bolt face play, how much is okay?

Bolt face concerns have more to do with extractors than just about anything else.

Gunsmithing CZ 550 Magnum Action accuracy potential for long range 338 Norma Magnum

I had one of the 550 338 Lapuas that George did. While it did EVERYTHING well (function and accuracy), I just didn't like it much. Mine still had factory bottom metal (very functional, just didn't like it), and it just seemed too much like a hunting rifle trying too hard. Admittedly, all my...

Anybody else pissed off about this?

I've bought lots for CTD. But, if it's not a good deal, I don't buy it. I also don't get offended when they want more than I'm willing to pay.

Gunsmithing build on a ruger m77 action?

You've made the right choice! Howa is a very fine action, especially when you factor in price, or compare it to the Ruger.

Gunsmithing Anyway to fix a F'd up chambering job??

Sounds like it wasn't too far out to begin with, so the new 'smith won't have a hard time cleaning it up. Personally, I would have stayed with the original 'smith, hoping that his embarrassment would mean a free fix, especially since he could use the original reamer (in the case that he just...

    Gunsmithing recoil Lug

Is the idea that you're building a lightweight hunting rifle and want to shave off every gram you can? Or, are you concerned that a factory sized lug won't be enough?

Are 17 Mach 2s totally useless?

Of the four common rimfires, it's by far my least favorite, and one that I don't have anymore in my lineup.

Finally took the CZ455 VPT out; this was all your fault for talking me into buying one

Seems like a bargain. It makes me want to rethink all my projects.

20" heavy or 18 inch medium for DPMS 308

I'm another fan of the 18" 1:10. I'm not surprised to see the vast majority of guys here are as well.

For a 'rebuild' are you just going back to standard military configuration, or is this for a sporting rifle?

    Gunsmithing Free-floating an action?

Well, a 10/22 is already a tough gun to clamp. A aluminum receiver and a single screw holding it in... something more substantial is bound to help.

    Gunsmithing Free-floating an action?

I've one of those Holland rifles with the V-block. I don't like how only one screw holds the metal to the stock. Also, while it's free floating the action, you still have the magazine pushing on it... but I admit that's not much. And, if you want to make any changes, you're pretty much well...

Gunsmithing Thoughts on recutting a chrome lined barrel.

Hey Guys, What are your thoughts of recutting the crown of a chrome line barrel? I'm specifically thinking of an AR15 type barrel, but I guess it doesn't really matter. Some guys says your chrome will chip or peel. Other guys say it's just fine. Any practical experience?
