597 16" heavy barrel any good

Guys quick question....I'm looking at picking up a 597 for general target shooting out to 150-200 yards and perhaps a little hunting now and then. I noticed they now have a 16" heavy barrel version available and looking for some imput on the good/bad of the 16 barrel compared to say the...

Rifle Scopes Viper PST 4-16x50 BC sizes?

Guys does anyone know which # butler creek caps fit the Vortex Viper 4-16x50 in SFP? I have one on the way and would like to get the caps ordered ASAP. There is nowhere here to buy local so I have to mail order. Thanks for the help.

Savage TR with Viper PST 4-16x50

Re: Savage TR with Viper PST 4-16x50 Thanks Gorax that's what I was wondering. I'm trying to determine if the 4-16x50 PST would be good enough for shooting paper out to max of 200-250 or so. I don't use a spotting scope so I'd like to be able to see the bullet holes if at all possible. My...

Savage TR with Viper PST 4-16x50

Re: Savage TR with Viper PST 4-16x50 Thanks guys, no offence to anyone with the Falcon but I've had three and neither were of any quality as far as I could tell. The dials were mushy, they did not track that well, and the glass was so so. I will never buy another although the options you get...

Savage TR with Viper PST 4-16x50

Guys, Looking to upgrade my optics from the Viper 6.5-20x50 to a Viper PST 4-16x50. Just wondering if anyone has this scope on the Savage TR and if there were any issues with mounting distance, etc. I have a EGW 20MOA rail on the rifle if that makes a difference. Also, any thoughts on the...

Best bang for the buck scope?

Re: Best bang for the buck scope? The Vortex Viper is a really good option, I run the 6.5-20x50 on my Savage TR. Only wish I had gone with the mildot reticle instead of v-plex, makes life easier in the wind (which seems to be constant in these parts)

    Best Budget 22lr

Re: Best Budget 22lr I'm sorry are we still speaking of rifles or something else???? Man that's one stange love affair you've got going there. So do you shoot it or just rub with oil? (no offence but that was too hard to resist)

    Best Budget 22lr

Re: Best Budget 22lr Both the Savage and CZ will shoot, and both are comparable in the accuracy dept. It just depends on the day, so there is no winner between the two for accuracy. Anyone who tells you different is leading you wrong. CZ is more money and a better fit and finish if that's...

    Manners Stocks (Savage Mark II)

Re: Manners Stocks (Savage Mark II) It's not the style of the stock I'm looking for, it the quality and the fact it would be full size. I guess if all else fails I just keep waiting for the 455 varmint to become available. Too bad, the Savage is a fantastic rifle and I'm sure would be great...

    Manners Stocks (Savage Mark II)

Re: Manners Stocks (Savage Mark II) Guys, is there no support for this? I'm shocked that there wouldn't be at least 50 people looking to put a decent stock on the Mark II. Oh well, I guess it's back to the search for a 452 or 455 when they are finally available.

    Manners Stocks (Savage Mark II)

Re: Manners Stocks (Savage Mark II) 50 stocks doesn't seem like that big of an issue if others were interested. I know the stock will cost about the same as the gun or even perhaps more, but that is nothing out of the ordinary....Rem 700 varmint/tactical in an AICS, Savage HB in McMillan...

    Manners Stocks (Savage Mark II)

I think I already know the answer to this one but figured I'd throw it out there anyways. Does Manners make a stock for the Savage Mark II? I know they are making one for the CZ452/455 but I can't seem to get my hands on an old 452 varmint and the 455 is not available here yet. If they...

POA / POI change, barrel heated?

Re: POA / POI change, barrel heated? Do you have much experience with shooting targets in general? Any other rifles that you shoot? I would take the advice of others on here and see if you can get a friend (who has established shooting skills) to shoot the rifle and see how it does. That...

Looking for a capable bolt action .22 for $300

Re: Looking for a capable bolt action .22 for $300 If you're looking to put a tacticool stock on whatever you buy, why don't you just go buy the Savage TR? It will have all you're looking for right out of the box at a very decent price. CZ's are nice but you also have to consider the extra...

New rail with no difference. Any suggestions?

Re: New rail with no difference. Any suggestions? as others have said, check the rail to make sure it is a 20MOA and that you have installed it correctly. Not sure it the ring height would make that much difference, but for me, I always try to have the scope as close as possible to the...

    First Rimfire, caliber question

Re: First Rimfire, caliber question The Savage BV is laminate stock and should be in your price range. This gives you the option of picking up a taticool stock later down the road if you so wish. Accuracy of the BV is very good.

    First Rimfire, caliber question

Re: First Rimfire, caliber question Well if you're looking to improve your shooting ability then the 22lr would be my choice. You can shoot a 22lr at longer distances than 100yards and there are lots of folks shooting 200+ with it. Why do you think there are so many 22lr guns out there being...
