So a close friend of mine was able on a whim of sorts to acquire a Proof Research barrel for his AI. In the process of his load development today with 109 Berger's doing a seating depth test: well he thinks he has a decent load... In no way should the data shown be considered safe in any...
Recently working with 2 different .260 rifles. One an AI the other a JP. what I am finding difficult to understand is why the gas gun is apparently so much more sensitive to pressure. This is based on my "ignorant" assumption that regardless of the breech in the chambers and ammunition...
Being the proud owner of several silencers, and having to deal with the disassembly and cleaning of several of them the thought comes to mind that perhaps there is a best "diet" to feed these useful devices. Most specifically to be used in the .223Rem/5.56Nato, 6.5 Creedmoor & the venerable .308...
If it were a poll these were the votes through post 57. Varget 38 votes IMR 4064 got 28 votes Imr 4895 18 H 4895 5 IMR 8208 XBR 9 IMR 4320 2 RL 15 19 PP 2000 MR 7 CFE 4 Win 748 4 Benchmark 2 TAC 1 BLC-2 2 Leverevolution 1 Norma 202 or 203B 2 V V 135 and 140 1
Varget first IMR 4064 second IMR 4895 third for me I've also had excellent results with VV 140 and VV 540 Never really tried the RL 15 as Varget was dominating my .308 shooting. Would make an excellent poll I think... Duh
I dropped one, Mea Culpa Mea Culpa Left target was FL sized Winchester cases averaging 158 grains in weight unloaded, right side was New Winchester brass averaging 162 grains in weight unloaded. Barrel clean and cold at beginning, sequence of firing was upper most left 1st, the upper...
I started with a clean oil only lubed rifle and the Winchester brass with IMR 4064, a load that has shot well... it still does with 100% function. Next I went a little higher than previously with 4064 to gather data and wear this rifle out. The rifle functioned 100% to the 42.3 grain load...
100 yards to develop a Varget and 175 Sierra MK load, easy right? Start with 5 rounds of FGMM 168's just to season the otherwise clean bore. Then a bottom of the book 42.0 grains with SMK at 2.80" COL and Federal 210 standard primers in LC LR 11 cases that were once fired, Headspace had been...
Just in the process of breaking in a new rifle and had particularly bad results with this ammo (American Eagle 168's the exact opposite however.) Besides the horrible accuracy, primer material was extruding into the firing pin hole. Thank God I only fired 5 rounds. Made a 1 click down and 1...
The 4X no fiber optic. This one: I've been to Trijicon's site and through the owners manual and can't find this bit of information. How much adjustment travel is there for the elevation and the windage. Not the amount per click but total up and down or left and right. Thanks.
When using Varget powder and Federal 210 primers then switching between Federal GMM brass and Winchester brass is there a "standard" adjustment to the charge for the case capacity differential? Such as +/- several tenths of a grain to attain the same muzzle velocity?
The rifle is a .308 Winchester Rock Creek 5R barrel at 26.5" in length, Action a Rem 700, Jewell 2 oz trigger and Tubb FP spring. Optic is an 8.5 X 25 Leupold LRT with a fine duplex. Stock is the HS precision factory with bedding block. Rifle is a good shooter and this particular test was to...
With the current powder availability I've decided to get rid of all old stock, partial cans etc. I found a few old metal IMR 4320 cans and decided to burn it up. .223, 6 XC (light bullets) .308, .30-06 what do you suggest?
When allowing rounds to feed in the semi cycle accuracy suffers greatly. It appears that a cut or scratching on the bullet jacket is being made by contact to the barrel extension during clambering. What or how can this problem be resolved? Thank you.
