What would make a H&R M1A worth more than a Springfield Armory M1A?

I wouldn't be surprised if the retail on this Rifle is near the 3K mark. I own two M1-A's, am early Springfield (Devine Texas) with a serial number under 700 and a 15 year old Springfield Scout Squad that I put a RDS on. If I was to ever buy another M1-A, I would buy the Bula M-21 DMR that...

    Once fired Brass Pricing

For purchasing fired brass, I'd rather take my chances buying 1X Factory over someone's 1X handload. At least the Factory ammo has been pressure tested. Refer to this thread: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/why-do-people-load-so-hot.7265702/page-3#post-12291621 You just don't...

Reloading and Tuning my 16" AR-10

Just measure you fired cases from each of you rifles (I would measure 5+cases or an average) and make notes for each rifle. My first year production SR-25 fired cases measure 1.631"(tight chamber) and my 2013 era GAP 10 fired cases measure about 1.634". Your Rifles should be in about the same...

Reloading and Tuning my 16" AR-10

I've measured a bunch of Factory loaded ammo and found the numbers can be about .003" plus or minus from the 1.630"SAMMI minimum. Just as you found, Factory loaded ammo shoulder datum length does vary between manufacturers. If you run into someone with a 1.630" GO headspace gauge, take a...

Reloading and Tuning my 16" AR-10

So, with your comparator distance setting case shoulders @ 1.620", how does that compare to the SAAMI minimum of 308 Win @ 1.630? What comparator are you using? Most Comparators will NOT give you a proper SAAMI distance reading. I have 3 different Comparators. Hornady, Sinclair and Derrico...

    Powder IN-STOCK thread

I got an e mail this afternoon from Hodgdon promoting the NEW 8.8# (4KG) packaging claiming you get 10% more for the same price as the 8#. A promotion of some kind I guess. Hodgdon has Monopolized 80% of the powder distribution in the US. I think only Norma, Alliant and Shooter's World powders...

    Doug Giraud

Sad to hear. I've used his trimmer for a number of years . Whenever I had a question and gave him a call, he was nice to talk to.

    Headspace is not brass body

As you found, you cannot neck only size only forever. At some point, you need to F/L size. I found this out decades ago and if I want to N/O size, I will not go over three N/O reloadings. I use a Lee Collet die along with a Redding Body Die and get very accurate ammo with low runout. As far as...

Maximum COAL for .308Win M1 Garand?

4350 is a little slow for the Garand gas system. Use powders in the 4895 range. 4064, Varget, RE-15, 8208 XBR and ball powders faster than H-380. With the light bullets you noted, you can use 3031 and Benchmark.

AR-10 is chewing up my brass

The current FC GMM 308 brass with the blue primer sealant and nickel plated primer is harder brass than the 20+ Y/O GMM brass was. The brass that had the brass colored primer with no primer sealant was much softer brass. I've been shooting this brass since the late 1970's. Been reloading it in...

Why am I piercing primers on this 6.5AR?

Not trying to bust your chops, just want to get info out the for the O/P. 👍

Why am I piercing primers on this 6.5AR?

Remington 6 1/2 primers do not have a thicker primer cup. It is .020" thick. Remington specifically warns not to use th e 6 1/2 in higher pressure cartridges like 17 Remington, 222, 223 etc. The 6 1/2 primer was designed to be used in lower pressure cartridges like the 22 Hornet & 218 Bee.

Why am I piercing primers on this 6.5AR?

If you're using small primer brass, you will need to use a primer that has a thicker cup as BobinNC pointed out. Other thicker primer cup brands are CCI 450's, CCI BR 4, CCI 41, Remington 7-1/2 and the Federal Small Rifle AR match. I would try a thicker primer cup before buying a High pressure...

    Sizing Brass Question

There is some confusion as to how the Redding Competition Shell Holders work for those that don't actually use them. Here's a thread on their use. I have an explanation in post # 11 along with others that use them...

Pistol Reloading Issue I cant figure out

Is all of your 9MM brass the same head stamp? If not, check the rounds that push in and see if the MFR. headstamp is the same. I know when I reload mixed 9MM head stamp brass, certain MFG. brass seats softer (less neck tension) than other MFG. brass. Is your seating depth (COAL) a little...

    Help identifying 30cal 180gr bullet

I think it's a Swift Scirocco that was made for one of the major ammunition manufacturers with that added deep cannelure. That bullet has a very thick jacket and the black plastic tip, just like the Sciroccos. Whatever it is, it's a very nice hunting bullet.

    308 FGGM brass

The newer GMM brass that has been made in the last 10 years or so is much better brass than the older, softer GMM brass. I've been reloading it since the early 1980's. I've hoarded a lifetime supply of it over the years from L/E Sniper Teams. Segregated the older from the newer brass. The...
