To tune or not. A follow up on Tuning .

As with many things in life, people tend to believe what they want to be the truth. It doesn't change anything except their own perception of reality.

Tuner series: Harris tuner part 2

Here's a detailed print for installation. Note there is a .900x .500 long journal behind the threads. It's also very specific as to thread spec. Lots of smiths thread to fit the part in hand. No way to guarantee fitment unless the bbl was threaded to a class 2 dimension but it often will. Just...

Tuner series: Harris tuner part 2

Thanks for all you're doing Bryan! Let me know when/if you'd like to test with my tuner. I'd happily donate one to your testing. I didn't want to at first because I didn't want it to be perceived as influencing your test in any way. But, seems like your tests have already shown that tuners do in...

    Remington 700... Bolt Question

Oh, it can be done but it'd be throwing a lot of good money after bad. Cocking cam, ejector, extractor, bolt handle and anti bind groove, if needed. Am I forgetting anything?

Harrell Tuner on a Vudoo MTU tapered barrel

Shawn, while I totally know better than to fuel your desire to call me out without you having any idea how much testing we've actually done on my design, well... Above, you mentioned seeing a picture of my tuners before completion and you added that it appears that they might have whatever...

Harrell Tuner on a Vudoo MTU tapered barrel

Shawn, I got your email, in the wee hours of the morning a couple of days ago.. asking for a quick reply., so here it is. I've openly discussed tuners on most every site without hiding much. You can find pertinent info with a quick search. Your email was, lets say, direct. I don't recall you...

Vudoo V-22S Single Shot BR/F-Class Action

Oh, no worries and I'm not offended. That said, I have zero recollection of speaking with a gunsmith recently, that informed me that he was inquiring for export purposes or that he was calling on your behalf, due to any language barriers, which is certainly possible. There was one that called...

Vudoo V-22S Single Shot BR/F-Class Action

I don't check in here that often but many of the comments make me feel very proud of the products mentioned here that I'm involved with and the support that I make an earnest effort in giving to everyone that I speak with, especially regarding tuners. Unfortunately, and apparently, I have not...

PDT Partical Dampened Tuner - Range Report

Amen! The cf tuners thread on. More recoil means it's simply harder to hold the tuner. The last thing anyone needs is for the tuner to slip. I could make one for you just like the one you have, that will clamp on, but it may slip. Another thing, the current cf tuners are made for big barrels...

    Gunsmithing Stiller bolt nose recess?

Bolt to tenon clearances serve some less than obvious purposes. Metering of expelled gas and debris as well as extractor containment, in the event of case rupture are a couple. Also related to this is the ability of the bolt nose to expand to fit the counterbore in extreme overpressure...

PDT Partical Dampened Tuner - Range Report

I just found this while googling my own tuner. Boy, it's good info, and just what I like to hear from customers. I appreciate the good report and how you are going about testing with it. Being methodical is the key. All too often, people tend to move tuners randomly, hoping for improvement...

    Neck diameter question

Can you slip a bullet into a fired case....An inch is "almost" as good as a mile here. Too much clearance is simply working the brass more.

    Chamber Length & Trimming Question

Why? The only reason it would matter is the carbon ring that you have to deal with anyway. Some would say that it's better to have it form well rear of the throat.

    Neck diameter question

If your measurements are accurate, I think you are on the right track to at least address one issue...it may well be the one causing your accuracy problems. The fact that a bullet won't slip into a fired case is a good clue., in itself. I'd turn a few necks, just as you mentioned, and go test...

    Chamber Length & Trimming Question

The neck in your chamber is long...Don't sweat it, just keep the carbon cleaned out of it. Trim your brass to be uniform.

    Remington 700 Bolt Lug marks/scrapes

I'm ok with it. One thing was said that is true...you can't tell what it needs from the pics. It may be fine but, I've seen it happen where material embedded in the lugs that continued to gouge into the inner abutments. It just got worse, not better. Felt like 60 grit in there.

Rifle Scopes What is the differance between the NightForce NXS and the NightForce Benchrest scopes?

The instance that I'm directly referring to was comparing the 15-55 comp nf to, I think a 10-60br march. At the various ranges where I compete, there are several each, March NFbr and nxs scopes, as well as others. And yes, at least to me, the nf comp looked much brighter with better contrast...
