Range Report Hornady 225gr BTHP/308 Win/RL17 (Range Report)

A while back I tried the Hornady 225gr BTHP in the 308 Win with good results. I had a feeling they may not stabilize in the factory 1/12 Rem varmint barrel, but they did, and shot pretty well on paper at 105 yards. I took them out to 1185 yards on a 1 moa target with repeatable accuracy...

    Gunsmithing Galled Bolt Lug

Rem 700 308Win. Several thousand rounds through it. I was shooting this recently and bolt closing felt a little wierd, opening after the shot felt really stiff and 'bumpy'. I pulled the bolt and saw this galling on the left lug. I deadlined the rifle. Sprayed out the lug recesses with carb...

Range Report Hornady 225gr BTHP in the 308 Win

I picked up a box of the Hdy 225 BTHP mainly for the 30-06, but figured I'd give them a go in the 308Win for R&D.....grin. Here's a quick report of my findings today. The biggest surprise was that they were stable and accurate at 308 Win velocities, in a 1/12 twist bbl. It's a fairly long...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Blackhawk CQC Serpa holster (review)

I recently picked up one of these holsters so I figured I'd give some initial impressions. I wanted a simple paddle holster mainly for open-carry for day-to-day use around the home, and in the hills. I like the minimal designs, but also want good retention, but without a thumb break. This...

    X-Mark Pro trigger breaks clean.............off

This is the second time this has happened. Replaced the first one with a old style Rem trigger. This one will get a Timney flat shoe. Both broke simply removing the stock, and the trigger shoe lightly contacted the inside of the stock inlet laterally on the way out.

    Photos On the Hill

jrob300 was in the area yesterday and we went up the hill to do some ELR plinking. Ground was damp, so dust signature of splashes was nearly non-existant. There was some snow flying as well, making visibility a bit of a challenge. Spotting impacts was very difficult. We both managed to spot...
