Subject came up when discussing AR Pistols... We all know that bullet stability is effected by the twist of a barrel but does how many turns it makes effect it too? Suppose a barrel has a 1:7 but is only 6.5" long. How stable would it be? What if the barrel was slightly longer than 7" or...
Re: Best way to remove an AR15 barrel? Haven't touched a thing yet...waiting for some parts to come in. Wiggling it seemed like it might loosen the area on the upper where the pin goes in.
Re: DPMS 308 gas block JP has one and Midway carries it. The comment on Midway suggest you may need to machine (drill?) some flats on your barrel for the set screws.
I want to move a barrel to a new upper and also re-use the upper that it's already on. It seems that the 'wiggle it' method might not be the best. I've thought about taking a dowel about the size of the bolt carrier and using it and a rubber hammer to tap out the barrel enough to get it...
Re: Muzzel brake affect on acuracy The whole question of muzzle brakes affecting accuracy seems to be one of those yes/no issues. On some barrels adding one has an adverse effect on others no effect and on some an improvement. IMO it has to effect barrel harmonics and I think you're right...
I've been reading some pretty negative comments about Hornady's 6.5 Creedmoor brass: short life, loose primer pockets. They also seem almost impossible to find. Anyone agree/disagree with this? How hard would it be to make Creedmoor cases from quality .308 cases? Size and trim? Neck ream?
Re: What can you tell me about the M14 I've got two: One marked Poly Tech and the other marked Norinco. Essentially the same. I like them. They work. You will find a wide variety of opinions on them ranging from there just fine to 'that lousy Chinese crap will blow up in your face!' You...

Re: A Comfortable, Ethical Range Let me more clear... I was just looking at the rounds performance, not the hunter's. Has anyone actually used this for hunter and what did they think of it's performance.
Re: Problems with custom build accuracy. My guess is that it has more to do with the ammo being effected by the temp than the AR. It's well known that temp changes will effect powder burn characteristics. One thing to consider is that the rounds heat up as the go into a hotter and hotter...
Not a pure ballistics question but... Using an AR with a 20" barrel what is the maximum range you would feel comfortable taking a shot at an average whitetail deer using a 6.8SPC? A 6.5 Grendel?
Re: Primer differences LOL! There is only one good primer don't you know. That's why all the others are just sitting on the shelves waiting to be bought. Seriously, part of your load development should include testing for which primer works best. Over time, you may see that some powders...
Re: .223 AR neck tension issue - hopefully resolved My setup gives a .003" neck tension and no crimp with any bullet I'm using in my AR. I've had 0 problems with bullets moving. When I originally had around .009" neck tension, I was getting pressure signs. These have gone away with the...
Re: Most Accurate 5.56/.223 AR15 Barrel for Build There are many great barrel makers out there. Most of them produce excellent barrels with a few that aren't so great. If one was truly and always better than everyone else, there would be only one brand being bought and used. It's a Honda...

Re: how old do you think these primers are? I found some I had forgotten that are in the same packaging from around 1972! No special storage over all those years and several moves. Mine go bang!
