    Army M24 Build Thread

Outback did reproduce the part. It was delivered to my door, finished ready to mount, for a total of $60. I am very happy it. My issued M24 would have had an OK Weber base, but it was taken off long before I was issued the rifle. I looked for a few months for an original WB490. I had a few near...

    Army M24 Build Thread

I had an inquiry about the WB 490 mount I had made through Outback Gun Parts about the finish, so I thought I would post a couple pictures to show the product Here are a couple pics from eosix on page 10 of this thread for comparison, so anyone interested can see the differences without...

    Army M24 Build Thread

I actually prefer the black closed foam that comes in a crate between the two ammo cans and duct tape. A piece of sleeping pad, or a mouse pad from your computer works well too. I covered mine with a little piece of canvas from an old duffle bag, but that was going over the top. Moleskin...

    Sling recommendations

TIS Slip Cuff Quick Release. Its very comfortable and you can choose several different ways to carry your rifle. If by some unexpected situation pops up, it makes an excellent shooting aid as well. I bought mine from Triad Tactical. I have several slings from TAB, TIS and of course the...

    Army M24 Build Thread

My rifle came back from Texas Brigade Armory a couple days ago, and I am very happy with it. I was able to take it to the range yesterday and was easily able to match the "proof target". I hope to do a little more shooting today. On the left is te "Proof Target" from TBA, on the right...

Leupold Mk4 40x spotter VS. USO Spotter

I was issued a Leupold MK4 12-40x60 spotting scope with a Mildot reticle and I loved it. I would like to buy one for my personal use, but would opt for the TMR reticle instead. I found the glass to be very clear. I never found the quality lacking on my Leopoldo spotting scope, but I have shot...

I hate the stock Remington 700 bottom metal!

PTG offers several options. Williams makes a good drop in bottom metal, just make sure you have the newer version. Dakota Arms makes a nice hinged floorplate as well. If you look around you may be able to pick up one of the above mentioned floor plates used, they don't really wear out and you...

    Army M24 Build Thread

I saw the same listing earlier, but noticed the seller had other bases besides the WB490, and the seller states he will choose which base he sends. If the seller sends the correct WB490 base, it will still need to be modified. Outback parts will sell you the piece that has already been modified...

    Honeycomb lens cover??

You could cut any shape you want, like a leaf for example, you can color the cardboard any tactical color you want. It will fit inside your lens cap when you are not using it as well. It's just one way to skin a cat or coyote in your case. Tape, sheer pantyhose stretched over your objective are...

    Army M24 Build Thread

Check with Stockies to make sure it's the PST24 stock not the PST11, the main difference is the inletting for both the bottom metal and the barrel contour. I would just call HSP, I had one within a month of my call. Don at HSP was the person that suggested I give Dakota Arms a call after making...

    Army M24 Build Thread

If you call Dakota Arms directly, they may still have some of the orginal R700 "contract bottom metal" Make sure you let them know what its for, as the long action 510 will not fit the HSP PST24. The PST24 was inletted for the "contract bottom metal". not the standard BDL bottom metal. I was...

    Remington 700 BDL bottom metal?

I would look hard at Williams or PTG for great value. I recently bought a Dakota for my M24 clone build and was very impressed with it, but it wouldnt fit a standard BDL without modification, the new Williams and PTG will.

lets rate range finders by price

I love my Leica 1600, I would like to trade it in for the newer 1600B, but I have been really happy with my choice. In my price range it came down to the Leica 1600 and the Swarovski. I gave the edge to Swarovski on clarity, but liked the smaller size of the Leica 1600. I am very confident I...

    Emergency Iron Sites

Funny, when I first saw this thread I thought it would show a map of Iron ore deposits, located throughout the world so that when the zombie apocolypse comes, the survivalist with the appropriate blacksmithing skills would be able to locate the iron ore, and fashion it into emergency weapons...

Best rear bag for tactical/long range shooting

Its tough to beat a sock filled with polypro beads. They are so simple to make I am always amazed that there is actually a market for "commercial" sand socks. I guess to each their own, but I would rather spend my money on something else.

    Best sling

My favorite is the TIS slip cuff quick release. It combines the best features of all the slings I have tried. I can't say enough about TIS customer service. I bought mine through Triad Tactical and was very pleased with the transaction.

    Why doesn't Remington offer a 700 with a 24" M24/M40 Profile Barrel?

Yes, a long action 700 action will work. It wont have "correct" M24 stamping, but it is the same reciever. I had planned on using my Remington 700 BDL chambered in 3006 as a donor for this project but decided it didn't make sense to pull it apart. I searched the local pawn shops and found an...

    Why doesn't Remington offer a 700 with a 24" M24/M40 Profile Barrel?

The average citizen cannot currently purchase a M24R, but they can purchase M24 from a Remington distributor. When the M24 contract was first given to Remington it restricted sales of the M24 rifle, however after it was awarded the second contract around 2002 that stipulation was removed. You...

    Training Courses Badlands Rifle Training

I really enjoyed my time at Badlands. Here is a quick review I wrote on my experience there as well as one written by some one that went a few years before me. There is a chance I may be there for the September class if I am not still over in the sand box. Feel free to pm me with any questions...
