Haha, yup. It was on my "to-do" list for many years. Took some serious reading... I'll have to check out the paper you mention, I don't think I've read that one.
Pretty sure I have that exact paper on the .223. Done by the Army BRL. Lots of partial data, very little complete. I was able to learn quite a bit just by modeling the 168 Sierra but it has odd dynamic stability issues. The more I learn about what can cause dispersal of my groups, the more I...
Spin drift is a difficult animal to predict. Yes, in a laboratory environment, it is an easy phenomenon to produce. Given right hand twist and a perfect departure from a barrel, it will drift to the right as it flies down range. The drift at 1k could be anywhere between 6 and 12 inches. However...
I imagined someone loosing a wild bobcat on the guy that just fell in the punji pit.... But yeah using the tracked machine to bury them is also a good idea.
Anyone out there have experience with 6DOF analysis on bullet flight? I have done 3DOF for work, thesis, etc, and recently wrote a 6DOF just for fun (yeah I know...) using Robert McCoy's book, "the launch and flight dynamics of symmetric projectiles." I was able to duplicate the 6DOF results for...
Dang if I'm I'm not completely out of popcorn.... Ok, here's a somewhat related thought. All the new menbers eagerly seek their 100th post so they can then sell things on here also. I think I'm still only on the 90's... I don't post much. This guy has cleared 100 in mere days. I've been a member...
Just a funny tale about .308's at long range. I took a buddy out to ping steel at 1000 yards. It was his first time at 1k. He had a modified rem700 SPS with 20" barrel and was shooting 168 Amax at unknown velocity.... I spotted while he fired and we walked in the impacts until we finally got a...
I was 23 or so. The "600" yard range had a view across a canyon. My new at the time Leica rangefinder lit up a rock at 1150 yards so I started chipping out chunks of the rock with a .308. The rock was probably the size of a car but still, first time long range fun.
The problem with calling the cops is that some of those trouble makers are used to it. I'm in a cul-de-sac and we have 1 bad apple to deal with. Grandma rents the house and then brought in all the misfits under her. 1 is in and out of jail, the others are generally loud and occassionally high...
Haven't met Tom but I did make it out to his range last summer. Nice setup he's got out there. I'll check out short action customs as well. Thanks for the replies. --- aim small miss small ---
I'm looking into a .300 blackout bolt action build. I own a stock and plan to do my own bedding/freefloating but need a local smith to put together action and barrel for me. Living near Dayton OH now, anyone have a recommendation for a gunsmith? --- aim small miss small ---
