    Horizontal distance argument

I get into the is argument all the time, and with engineers and technical writers for integrated circuit companies. How do I explain to someone that thinks they now everything, that it does not matter if you are aiming up or down at a target that you have to aim lower? I tell them that that its...

    Tumbler for stainless

Looking at Ebay and Craigslist for a Thumler's Model B. Everyone here on the Hide have the Model B. Cant find a Model B. There are some other makes and models that look like they should work. Specifically a Thumlers AR-12. For tumbling with stainless steel media will similar models work? Thanks

    auto loader - supressed ejction

Hijacked this quote from another thread - "When the autoloader is cycling under pressure loads, it will often eject them forward. And when it is cycling loads with excessive it will often throw the cases backwards. Finding an accurate load that drops the cases in a neat pile off your right...

    suppressed groups

Just got the can, and took it out on my 6.5L. Shooting a 123smk @ 2800mv. The can is a 6.8 AAC M4-2000, and will be switched between the 6.5L gas, and a 6.8SPC for hog eradication. The suppressed groups opened up to 1" @ 100yds from 1/2+ groups unsuppressed. Is there any chance I can get the...

Anybody got a 6.5 Lapua Redding S Type FL die?

I posted a few weeks ago about not being able to reconcile the OD of my 6.5 Lapua brass after resizing using a 288 bushing. The OD was coming out way smaller than the bushing. I got a 290 bushing, and the neck size came out .278. I took out the bushing and the neck size came out .278. So, the...

    What is bushing size?

I have a Redding .288 marked bushing. The OD is .500 The with of the bushing wall is .108. To find the ID - multiply the wall thickness by 2, and subtract that from the OD. You get .284. Why is a bushing with an ID of .284 marked .288?

    BC is King for 6.5x47?

This week I posted a question about powder density, and “BC is King” debate came up about my bullet weight choice. I agree that BC is king, but after reading Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting I decided to do an analysis of my bullet weight options using the Litz ballistic software...

    powder densities

I would like to calculate the volume of certain weights of various powders. Is there a chart of powder densities? I am developing a load for a 6.5x47 (AR). H4350 seems very popular. I had IMR 4350 on hand, so I decided to use that to fire form the 100 pieces of new brass. 41gr seems to be a...

    Lapua new brass runout

Or how to prevent it when getting the neck dents out of new 6.5x47 Lapua brass. Runout before running the expander ball thru is .001-.003. After .005 to .008. Using Redding S FL with 287 bushing. Lubed the cases with One Shot, the necks (inside and out with Imperial). Lubed the bushing and...

    LR 308 buttstock

Putting together a DPMS LR-308 in 6.5x47. Decided on the Magpul PRS stock. The description read that it goes on an A1/A2 buffer tube, which surprised me. Figured since the buttstock was just for AR10/LR308 that the buffer tube would be special too. The big question is, are buffers...

    Removing Doughnut

I have a sinclair neck turner. I know of the K&M carbide fluted mandrel. Not sure if it will fit on a sinclair holder. So, what methods are available for removing the doughnut after neck turning for those that have a sinclair neck turner or maybe something that will work with a forester trimmer?

    Gunsmithing adjusting Timney trigger

Would like to adjust my Timney trigger (rem700) down about a pound. It is at the factory setting. The web site said the adjustment was the hex screw at the rear of the trigger. There are two adjustment screws in the front. Anyone adjusted their Timney Rem 700 trigger, and how did you do it?

    Redding S Type ?

I am about to pull the trigger on upgrading to a Redding bushing resizing die for my 300wm. My question is that it seems that the expander button coming back thru the neck would negate the precision neck sizing that the bushing does. Also, I have to bump back the shoulder, so it seems I need the...

    300winmag Berger 185 H4831 recipe

Cant find any recipes for Berger 185's in 300winmag. With the H4831 the starting loads get smaller as the bullet mass goes up. Did a ladder test starting @ 69.0 up to 74.0. Concluded this was a safe range given data for 180gr and 200gr bullets. It was. Found the node at 73.0 to 74.0. No signs...

    Range Report Ballistic FTE

Still figuring out the Iphone Ballistic FTE app. I was at the range today. Wanted to document the dope on an AR 223, surplus 55gr ammo, Eotech 552. Its zero'd at 25yds. It shot 1.5" low at 10 yds. At 100yds it was 8" high. Tried to plug in variables into my Ballistic FTE app, and never could...

    Sinclair case holder wobble

The cases in my Sinclair case holder wobble when I engage the electric screwdriver. Seems to be causing the run out to be .002 higher. Is the wobble effecting the concentricity of my cases? Is the case supposed to wobble?

    Sinclair Neck Turning Adjustment

I acquired a used Sinclair 3000 neck turning tool. Trying to figure out how to set the cutting blade. It is spring loaded. What is the long screw in the opposite side used for? How does one precisely set the cutting blade to a specific depth? Thanks

    Runout tolerances

I had started a thread about neck turning, but appears I need to know more about run out. I just got a Sinclair concentricity gauge to assist in neck turning procedures. Appears my Hornady emptied reloads sometimes have runout of .004. Some have .002. I found a loaded hornady that had not been...

    Started neck turning

Got a Sinclair neck turning tool and mandrels for 22 & 30. Ultimate goal is neck turning 300wm. Starting\experimenting with the 223 first. I am I doing this right? Before using neck sizing mandrel and turning neck - neck runout .004, neck thickness .013, OD .247. After neck sizing and turning...

Gunsmithing KDF v Defensive Edge muzzle brake

Going to get a brake for my 300wm. The 2 locally well known smiths install KDF's. They will install others, but is more expensive, and they seem to be experts at the KDF installation. I would prefer the Defensive Edge break. Just from a physics standpoint I would think it reduces more recoil...
