    Maggie’s I once met Maggie

Every time I see this forum it brings me back to Nam. I was a young Sgt. on a special forces A-team in the delta. One day we get a call saying there's a chopper inbound with someone who wants to meet us. This huey lands and who gets out but Martha Raye. She was an honorary Green Beret, a Lt...

What is the best free balistic program?

I started using Strelok free version, but quickly upgraded to the pro version. It's only $12, and the best $12 I ever spent. This program has everything you'll ever need, and I highly recommend it.

    Precision Rifles.....show em!!

Wish I had that talent! I highly respect machinists, some of them are true artists with what they can do with metal. Me? I'm lucky I can draw a stick figure!

Gunsmithing Want to build an AR10 and need help and lots of advice

Well I already have a claw hammer, a large screw driver and some vice grips.... Seriously though, since I'm retired and have some time on my hands I wanted to build something that I could use for 600 yards + shooting. Nothing super accurate, although I want to achieve the smallest grouping I...

Gunsmithing Want to build an AR10 and need help and lots of advice

I have always wanted an AR10 and enjoy doing things myself, so I thought I'd start out with a stripped lower. What I don't know is do I go with an 80% lower and do the milling, with a dremmel, myself or just purchase a stripped lower and parts then assemble from there? Then what lower do you...

Question on making 260 brass and it's accuracy

Leadbullet, that is exactly what I found.. Necking up .243 brass seems to be far superior than any commercial brass I've bought. Guess I'll just continue this practice, and yes, I too anneal but usually after third or fourth firing. Guess it is the neck tension.

Question on making 260 brass and it's accuracy

Hope this belongs here but here goes (the mods will move it if necessary). I shoot 6.5mm (260) quite a bit at ranges anywhere from 100 - 1000 yards. I noticed that when I use .243 brass necked up to 6.5mm, the accuracy seems to improve. All other factors are equal, same powder, bullet either...

Received my Witt muzzle brake today - report

Ordered my brake last week after doing a ton of research. I finally settled on the Witt Machine Company model. First a little background. The rifle is a .308 built on a Savage action using a Shilen heavy varmint barrel. .816 diameter at the muzzle. I sent Witt the dimensions and a week or so...

Is it possible to modify this trigger?

I have a few Savage rifles which I use for LR shooting. They have the accutrigger. I tried a Jewel trigger on a friends rifle and loved it, unfortunately, Jewel doesn't make a trigger for Savage. Being a cheap bastard, is there a way to modify the accutrigger to make it more crisp? The pull...

Why don't snipers use "tuned" ammo?

First of all - Mods - if this is in the wrong area, please relocate it where you think it should be. Thanks.... I just finished reading American Sniper, Chris Kyles book on his tour in the sand countries. He uses a variety of weapons, MK11, MK112, 300 Win Mag and a 338 Lapua. He says they get...

Gunsmithing Input on what happened to this brass...

I have to post. I just wasted 20+ minutes of my life reading through this thread. i commend all of you who tried to help this guy figure out what happened to his "alleged" rifle. The discussion was right on the money and very helpful in resolving a hypothetical problem. We never saw pics of the...

Strange thing at the range today using IMR4064

This morning I was shooting my usual load in my .308. 168g SMK, 46.8g IMR4064, .010 off the lands. I shot this many times before with no problems, using a variety of brass, mostly Rem or Lapua but also PPC and FC. This morning after two shots, I wasn't able to close the bolt and longer. Even...

    Rifle Scopes Scope interchangeability

Re: Scope interchangeability Dinc, Duh! Now why didn't I thank of that! Your solution works the best. Zero on one, record settings, remount, rezero and record and now I have the offset to be used between rifles. Duh - I feel like a dunce - so easy. Thanks everyone for all your input - it all...

    Rifle Scopes Scope interchangeability

I have some very good scopes and some so so scopes. Has anyone developed a set of mounts and rings whereby I can put the scope on one rifle, then at some other time quickly swap it to another rifle and still hold zero, at least windage? A quick and easy way to use the same scope on different...

    Question about switching barrels

Thought I'd ask the masters. I have several rifles built on Savage actions, both long and short. I am thinking of swapping barrels between a couple of my different stocks. In other words, take the barrel off the SSS stock and put it on the Maners stock. Both stocks are bedded to the recievers...

What are the alternatives to the ladder test?

I don't have access (at least not close, maybe an hours drive, but on the weekends it's difficult getting a bench)to a 300 yard range. The best I can do is a 100 yd range. I realize the ladder test is probably the best way to develop a load, but at 100 yards there's too little difference to...
