Gunsmithing Some short barrel questions for the pros

Re: Some short barrel questions for the pros Keep in mind that the rotation of the bullet is to create gyroscopic stability which counters the aerodynamic forces acting to destabilize the bullet. The gyroscopic stability is a function of the physical properties of the bullet ( length...

    Maggie’s Favorite movie dialog's

Re: Favorite movie dialog's Serenity: People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

Member Link Up WI shooters... Anybody?

Re: WI shooters... Anybody? They would have concerns if you were shooting steel at less than 100 yards. They have also had issues with people shooting up storage trailers and other "non target" items there, hence the "appropriate backstop". If you set up steel at the 600 yard target area, you...

Member Link Up WI shooters... Anybody?

Re: WI shooters... Anybody? Ripon has one beat up steel target that you can shoot from the 600 yard line. I asked about bringing your own steel target and was told it wouldn't be a problem, so long as the steel was targeted at an appropriate range and with appropriate backstop.

Fieldcraft Shooting prone with gun laying sideways at a 90

Re: Shooting prone with gun laying sideways at a 90 I don't believe the sloped rail will have any effect. I think it will just shift where your 100 yard zero falls withing the scopes range of elevation adjustment.

Gunsmithing How to slow a bullet down in a bolt gun?

Re: How to slow a bullet down in a bolt gun? Part of the problem here is that there are several different things going on. As far as your example of sound in space, you need to consider both the speed of sound(which is practically independent of pressure) and acoustic impedance( which is...

    Recommendations for cold weather gear...

Re: Recommendations for cold weather gear... I've been really happy with outerwear from Wiggy's. It handles sweating, stay's really warm and is machine washable. It's probably more expensive than what you can find at a sporting goods store, but I have been outside, drenched with sweat, in -20F...

    Triad Tactical ??

Re: Triad Tactical ?? If it is a Windows machine, you can try going to a command prompt and typing "ipconfig /flushdns". That will flush the DNS cache on the local machine.

Range Report Wind effect through "tunnel" of trees

Re: Wind effect through "tunnel" of trees My understanding from reading Bryan Litz is that the bullet will turn into the wind creating a drag component that accelerates the bullet away from the line of sight. When the wind component is no longer present, the bullet will realign with the...

Range Report A bullet CANNOT knock someone/thing over can it?

Re: A bullet CANNOT knock someone/thing over can it? I guess I'd argue that a bullet absolutely can knock someone over. The argument that if a bullet could knock someone over, then the shooter would fall over as well is somewhat flawed. You shouldn't be looking at conservation of momentum...

    338 LM - 250gr or 300 gr SMK?

Re: 338 LM - 250gr or 300 gr SMK? This thread has some good comparisons of the ballistics between the two bullets, if you haven't read over the last couple pages it is probably worth while. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=599667&page=4

Bumping the shoulder on a loaded round

Re: Bumping the shoulder on a loaded round Would there be a concern about whether or not this is a compressed powder load and potentially causing a change in OAL?
