Re: 30-06 POWDER RECOMENDATION I've had good results from IMR 4831, Win. 760, IMR 4064 and even Varget in a variety of '06's ranging from 1917 Enfields to Remmy 700's.

Re: Sheep/mountain rifle - caliber and stock? Don't look past the ol' 284 Winchester. Ballistics are a little better than the 7-08 and closer to the 280 Rem. I like to call it the "original Short Mag"

Re: barrel life on different cartridges the only barrel I've truly worn out was on a Winchester M70 in 264 Winnie. It had just anlittle over 3000 rounds down the tube. I've got a 222 Rem that has recently lost a little of its accuracy and I suspect the throat is being eroded. it has well...

Re: 264 win mag I have several 264 Winnies. love every one of them. I have had great accuracy and performance with both 120 and 140 grain pills. Gt yourself some H1000 powder and have fun!!
