The Truth about precision rifle cleaning

Re: The Truth about precision rifle cleaning I for one have never been a fan of truly cleaning my GAP's barrel, that being said, after every outing the action gets wiped down with Sinclair's Action cleaning tool kit (no chemicals). http://www.sinclairintl.com/gun-cleaning...-prod35492.aspx...

    Copper shavings from seating bullets

Re: Copper shavings from seating bullets Thanks for the help guys, I'm going to give the VLD tool and chamfer the cases more a try for now.

    Benefits of Annealing?

Re: Benefits of Annealing? I anneal by using a drill, a propane torch, and a couple vises to make sure everything stays in the same spot, mixed with a very annoying/loud beeper/timer. The benchsource machine is much better for consistency, but since I just shoot by myself for fun I cannot...

Basic Reloading Equipment For a Newbee Reloader

Re: What I think a new reloasder should have. Something I think is missing from the list, RCBS precision mic. Makes finding lands a breeze and much more reliable than any DIY tool I have tried.

    Copper shavings from seating bullets

Re: Copper shavings from seating bullets Nevermind, I thought VLD was a brand, not a style of chamfer.

    Copper shavings from seating bullets

Re: Copper shavings from seating bullets The cases get annealed every 4 firings, and it does help quite a bit, but not eliminate. And I use a standard RCBS chamfer, Is there anything special/different about VLD?

    Copper shavings from seating bullets

Re: Copper shavings from seating bullets Well that leads to another question, how much do you chamfer the case? Are we talking until the chamfer touches the outer edge of the neck? I usually hold it for a 4 count, gives it a noticeable angle but maybe half the thickness of the neck. If that...

    Benefits of Annealing?

Re: Benefits of Annealing? I anneal my brass every 4 or 5 firings, and it could just be me, but I swear that it tightens the groups up. Around firing 5 groups expand, anneal, they get slightly better, but they seem to be best after firing 2/3. Could just be a good/bad days though.

    Rifle Scopes Best $1,500 glass?

Re: Best $1,500 glass? When I was putting together my rifle I picked up a nightforce NXS 5.5-22, to date I have no complaints and would buy it again.

    Copper shavings from seating bullets

I have been having this issue for quite a while now, all my bullets, being seated from multiple types of dies, produce slight copper shavings around the neck once I seat them. I expect this is fairly common since my cousin and uncle say the same thing, and we have reduced it by putting sizing...

    308 hard(ish) bolt close

Re: 308 hard(ish) bolt close That helps more than you can imagine, I knew I would have to eventually FL resize but I did not anticipate after so few firings. AND I was hoping to avoid going back to square one haha. Now if I may ask one last stupid question. I have never bothered with...

    308 hard(ish) bolt close

Re: 308 hard(ish) bolt close I was looking at that and was planning on buying one but I wanted to ask before I bought something I might not need. Once again, thanks.

    308 hard(ish) bolt close

Re: 308 hard(ish) bolt close Thanks baker, do you use the body die because of a similar occurrence or just because? I am asking because this batch has only had 5 reloads and I have noticed this since maybe reload 3. Am I probably going to need to use the body die every load or will every...

    308 hard(ish) bolt close

Re: 308 hard(ish) bolt close Thanks hawk, sorry I was typing other message while you posted. I have the mic from RCBS and I am going to email GAP and ask if they have a reamer print for my action. I got it used and it might be helpful to have that.

    308 hard(ish) bolt close

Re: 308 hard(ish) bolt close Cobra I understand that neck dies don't bump shoulders, that is why I was asking about the competition head space shell holders, it is my understanding that with those it is possible to bump shoulders with a neck die. Am I mistaken? Also, dumb question, does...

    308 hard(ish) bolt close

My 308 when using factory new rounds chambers like a dream, yet I have been noticing that when using my fire formed lapua brass the bolt will close 98% of the way flawlessly but then I have to force the bolt forward the rest of the way to lower the bolt handle. There is no extra tension or a...

    Issues with 22-250 chambering

Re: Issues with 22-250 chambering Thanks for the help, I figured it is something to do with the brass, just wanted to ask around before I go spend the 65-90ish on a new die.

    Issues with 22-250 chambering

Re: Issues with 22-250 chambering Yeah a sized empty case is still a tad bit rough. Not bad but still not as smooth as a unfired case. I am just confused because this just started happening, the die has not changed and the previous X amount of rounds were fine.
